The Ethnic Studies Department would like to thank the campus community and guests from the community for making the 2016 Dia de los Muertos the best one yet for Fullerton College. Dia de los Muertos has been celebrated at the college for more than 20 years, and each year brings over 1,000 people to campus. See

Speech Department Hosts Showcase on Proposition 63
The Fullerton College Speech Department successfully hosted their first-ever "forensics showcase," held on Oct. 25 to a full house in Building 200, Rooms 224-228. Student debaters clashed on the topic of Proposition 63, the Firearms Ammunition Initiative. The affirmative team included Brian Gatpandan and Rohan Shah, and the negative side was represented by Ryan Martinez and Luis Gudino.

Habits of Mind Kick-Off Event
The Habits of Mind Kick-off event is Thursday, Nov. 3 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in Building 200. Room 229. The facilitator, Betsy Hanger will be discussing the intersections between mindfulness and equity work. She authored a chapter titled, "Teaching Mindfulness Across Differences" in
Teaching Mindfulness Skills to Kids and Teens. All Fullerton College students, faculty, staff and administrators are invited to attend this event.

Veterans Appreciation Week
The Veterans Resource Center is hosting several events in honor of Veterans Appreciation Week, Nov. 7-10. The events include an opening ceremony on the quad on Nov. 7; documentary screenings; a student-veteran forum on Nov. 8, and a celebration barbecue on Nov. 9. All of the events honor our active and veteran military service members while recognizing the specific contributions and concerns of student-veterans. For a list of events visit

Future Educators Attend Museum of Tolerance
Fullerton College Teacher Pathway Program students attended the Museum of Tolerance with students from Rancho Santiago College, Santa Ana College and Cal State Fullerton to gain professional development on how to teach about prejudice and injustice.

Six Supplemental Instruction leaders attended the Supplemental Instruction conference at Riverside Community College. Russel Hillabrand, Adam Allred and Steffanie Rodriguez presented on the "Role of SI leaders in Expanding SI programs".

Sociology Club Book Collection for The Prison Library Project
The Sociology Club is holding a book collection through Nov. 15 for The Prison Library Project. The project's mission is to provide free reading materials to inmates nationwide. They prioritize educational and self-help literature as well as recognize the value of literacy development through active engagement with books in general. Staff Development Workshops
Visit Room 808A on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. for a workshop using current events and games to foster classroom engagement. On Friday, Nov. 4 at 9 a.m. there will be an Understanding and Mitigating Opportunity Gaps to Achieve Equitable Success for All Students workshop in Building 300, Room 312. Two workshops will be in Room 314 on Friday, Nov. 4, Video Making for Instruction begins at 10 a.m. followed by Online Pedagogy at noon.

"Transitional Realities" refers to the changes in time, space, and emotions of a person, and how they allow these changes to shape and affect them. The five artists participating in this exhibition bring forth non-objective representations of their own external and internal realities.
This is the 12th season of the Fullerton College Faculty Dance Concert. The faculty's mission is to produce concert dance that introduces and promotes the diverse talents of FC students. It is an honor to showcase the talents of faculty choreographers, guest artists and student dancers.
The Fullerton College Jazz Band has been invited to play for the Los Angeles Jazz Institute jazz festival on Nov. 4 at 11:30 a.m. Only two schools have been invited to be a part of this four-day festival celebrating the music of Stan Kenton: Cal State Long Beach and Fullerton College. The performance will be in the Grand Ballroom at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel, Los Angeles (LAX).

Football
The Hornet offense racked up a school record 667 total yards on visiting Palomar College Saturday afternoon beating the Comets 63-31. The previous record was 656 against Saddleback in 2013.
Up Next: The Hornets (7-1 overall, 2-1 conference) will travel south to LeBard Stadium in Costa Mesa to take on Orange Coast College on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m.
Men's Soccer
The FC men's soccer team hosted Santa Ana College last Friday in a battle for third place in the Orange Empire Conference. The game ended in a 2-2 tie with the Hornets fending off a last minute place kick. FC is still a game behind Santa Ana and three games behind first place Irvine Valley College.
Up Next: The Hornets (9-5-5 overall and 5-4-3 conference) are in a fight for a playoff spot with a big game at home verse second place Golden West College coming up this Friday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m.
Women's Soccer
Playing with only 11 players due various injuries, the Lady Hornets lost 3-0 on the road to Santa Ana College last Friday.
Up Next: Fullerton (3-11-3 overall, 1-9-3 conference) will play at Golden West College on Friday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m.
Women's Volleyball
Fullerton hosted cross-town rival Cypress College on Friday night losing in three straight sets to the top-ranked Chargers 20-25, 15-25, 19-25.
Up Next: The Hornets (3-15 overall, 1-11 conference) will travel to Santa Ana College on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 5 p.m.
Women's Water Polo
After suffering a 16-12 loss to the Pirates at the Cuesta Tournament last month, the Hornets stepped up their game crushing Orange Coast at home in a conference match 20-5 last Wednesday.
Up Next: The Hornets (18-8 overall, 4-2 OEC) will play in the Orange Empire Conference Tournament Nov. 3 to 5 at Saddleback College.
Men's Water Polo
The Hornets played in two games at the Mount San Antonio College Mini-Tournament today losing to the Mounties 27-10 and shocking San Diego Mesa College 15-12.
Up Next: Fullerton (11-14 overall and 0-4 OEC) will play in the Orange Empire Conference Tournament 3-5.
Women's Cross Country
The Orange Empire Conference Championships were hosted by Golden West College and held at Central Park in Huntington Beach last Friday. The seven-team conference competed on the dry course, as there was a threat for a chance of rain that day. Cassidy Nyenhuis finished first for the Lady Hornets and Belen Gonzalez was just eight seconds behind her crossing the finish line. Kaitlyn Holt shaved a minute off of her previous time for a third place finish for the Hornets. Haley Hogberg, Daniela Hernandez, Amber Hernandez, and Samantha Beall all collectively grouped in together to finish up the team scoring. The ladies finished in sixth place overall with 161 points in a race that featured 52 runners. Unfortunately, this was the Hornets last race of the season as the top five teams advanced on to Southern California Regional Championships.
Men's Cross Country
At the Orange Empire Conference Championships at Central Park (Huntington Beach) last Friday, FC men's team stood at the starting line with the seven OEC teams eager to compete in the championships. Hornet Xavier Chavez ran 16 seconds faster than his previous race on the course and led the team to crossing the line again as number one man. Ethan Sheatz ran across the finish line as FC's second man followed by Evan Bonnand who was 37 seconds behind Sheatz. Finishing fourth and fifth for FC were Aaron Franklin and Wesley Maidlow followed by Oscar Barrios.The top five teams qualified on to the Southern California Regional Championships.
Women's Golf
The FC women's golf team had their best day on the links on Monday with a top three finish at the Royal Vista Golf Course hosted by Mt. San Antonio College. Lili Manurung shot a career best for the Hornets with a score of 89. Gwendelyn Bates led the way shooting 84 and Brooke Barker shot 89. Alexandra Rooney shot 90 helping the Hornets to their best score of the season of 351.
Up Next: Fullerton will play in the Orange Empire Conference Tournament at the Alta Vista Golf Course October 31st and November 2nd at Los Serranos.
A True Hornet Passes
The Hornet family suffered a big loss last night as longtime beat writer and sports editor for the Fullerton Daily News Tribune Bob Lenard passed at the age of 84.
