Picnic was held at our new property in Lewes on Sunday, October 30. Attendees got a sneak peek at what will become our second ReStore location when it opens in
January 2017!
The event was generously catered by
Arena's Cafe
who provided delicious chili with all the fixings and yummy apple fritters. The property was decorated in a fall harvest theme with pumpkins, mums, hay bales, and scarecrows which were also largely donated by
Wharton's Garden Center
in Rehoboth Beach.

Congratulations to our partner, She'Don.

She'Don and Her Boys
|
We recently dedicated her new Habitat home in Ingram Village in Ellendale! Many Habitat staff members, AmeriCorps service members, volunteers, and our friends from Berkshire Hathaway Home Services/Gallo Realty were there to celebrate with She'Don and her family. The boys graciously helped mom receive a ceremonial gold key, a homeowner's prayer, and Bible in accordance with our long-standing Habitat tradition. We wish them many years of health and happiness together in their new home!
|
We recently held four - count 'em four - project blessings
on
South Lee Avenue at Ingram Village in Ellendale. When a partner family has been admitted to the program they are eventually matched with a home site. Before or shortly after we begin the project, we gather with the family and their friends and ask a pastor to bless the project and pray for safety and wisdom for all involved as the project progresses.

AmeriCorps Celebrates Make A Difference Day 2016
|
AmeriCorps Delaware service members make a difference in our communities everyday. However, they still took the opportunity to celebrate Make a Difference Day.
Corps members across Delaware painted, did clean up projects, landscaped, collected food and
clothing donations, and
cared for
the homeless.
Sara Clendaniel spent the day working
with service dogs in training, Panda and Neptune, for Canine Companions for Independence (CCI).
Heather Barony
,
Bradley Gilmore
,
Sharon Feltwater
,
Traci de Wolfe
,
Susan Ullman
, and
Brenda Clarke
spent the day at Sussex County Habitat's ReStore thanking our customers for making a difference in the lives of our partner families with their donations and purchases.
Brittni Sullivan
joined our partners, Sheree DeShields and
Susan Jones
, our construction regulars, and
other volunteers on a build site in Delmar to Make a Difference there.
What can you do to Make a Difference today?

Michael A. Somer, our new
Construction Site Supervisor, retired in 2013 as Project Manager in School Construction. Then he relocated to Lewes with his wife, Mary. Most of his career had been in education helping to contribute to student success. After three years of puttering around, he decided it was time to get back in the saddle.
"The chance to join Sussex Habitat in September 2016 as a part-time construction site supervisor was a great opportunity and I look forward to contributing to the success of our community."
