Volunteer

Herbst Conversation Partner Opportunity

The Herbst International sections of HUEN 1010 are looking for volunteers to have weekly conversations with international students.

You would meet with the student once a week, for about 20-25 minutes, just to talk and let them practice their English. You will most likely meet in groups of 2 international students and 2 volunteers.

The goal of conversation sessions is to allow international students to practice their English in a fun and easy way. The Herbst program believes the best way to do this is to pair international students with English speaking students their own age.

If you are interested, please contact Christina Oerter at [email protected]

BOLD volunteers We would like to pair BOLD students with Herbst ELL students for conversation practice, counting towards up to 5 of their volunteer hours for the semester.
  1. Qualifications.  Ideally, some will have already completed one year at CEAS, however, freshman are welcome to volunteer as well! Volunteers should be willing to commit to a whole semester with a conversation partner.

Minutes/week .  Conversation are generally one session of 20-25 minutes per week, for 15 weeks.  However, if desired a conversation pair could meet multiple times per week.

Lift-off We would like conversation sessions in the next week or two, hopefully having everyone paired up by week 4.
