Notes From The Nurse

Y our mom is right!

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!  Imagine that you are a car and after a long night of sleeping, your fuel tank is empty. Breakfast is the fuel that gets you going so you can hit the road.

Studies show that students who eat breakfast do much better in school than students who skip breakfast. Breakfast eaters can concentrate better, have more energy, have better muscle coordination, and even score higher on tests.

Remember to choose a breakfast that is well balanced. Just like with other meals, try to eat a variety of foods, including: fruit, grains, protein, and dairy products. A balanced nutritious breakfast contains protein because protein stays in your body all morning. A breakfast that is high in sugar will burn off very quickly and leave you tired and hungry long before lunch.  You can find protein in foods like eggs, milk, yogurt, cheese, peanut butter.

So tomorrow morning, don't run out the door on an empty stomach. Fuel up with a healthy breakfast!

CALLING All
COEBOURN READERS

Coebourn once again is participating in Scholastic Reading Counts!
The goal of Reading Counts is to create lifelong readers by surrounding students with a wide variety of leveled literature and nonfiction texts in the classroom, in the school library, and at home. With Scholastic Reading Counts! students have a Lexile®-based independent reading program that tracks their success on the books they read, in and out of school. This technology-based program creates a personalized and engaging learning environment that ensures independent reading accountability. Scholastic Reading Counts intends to MOTIVATE students with suggested reading choices that match their interests and reading levels. This program is available to all 2nd through 5th grade students. Students in 2nd grade have a goal of 20,000 words read per month, while students in grades 3-5 are set to reach 30,000 words. Students may choose an independent book and when finished t take a ten question computerized quiz on the book. Seven out of the ten questions must be  answered correctly in order for the students to pass the quiz. The total number of words for the book read will be tracked throughout the year. If the book does not a Reading Counts quiz, students may write a summary of the book to receive credit. Any student who reaches 1,000,000 words will  be recognized both at school and at Brookhaven Borough Council!
Stay tuned......More to come next month about READING COUNTS!!

Coebourn Classroom Connection

The Wonderful World of Kindergarten

Coebourn Kindergarteners are off to a great start!  Our students are working hard to identify letters, sounds, and some of our new sight words.  During Kid Writing, students are creating amazing stories by listening for the sounds we hear in words.  Along with our hard work, Kindergarten recently enjoyed our very first field trip to the Tyler Arboretum.  We became mini scientists as we took a walking tour  to observe plants, animals, and insects!  Stay tuned to see what's next in the wonderful world of Kindergarten!
LOST & FOUND

Believe it or not...2 months in and our Lost & Found is already filling up. There are hoodies, coats, sweaters and jackets looking for their owner!!
Have your child take a look if you are missing something.
