College Visits This Week

University of Evansville

Archery
The season will begin, with one practice per week, on Saturday, October 7Archery promotes focus, concentration, discipline, confidence, and personal responsibility. Day School archers will learn safety and skills from a certified coach and participate in local tournaments. No experience is needed.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Mark your calendar for Thursday & Friday, October 26-27 for Middle School parent/teacher conferences. A Sign Up Genius link will be available beginning Monday, October 2. Look for an email from your student's Upper School adviser. 
Day School Community Highlights

Pancake Breakfast
The Evansville Day School National Honor Society chapter, an academic and service organization, will host their first pancake breakfast fundraiser of the year on Friday, September 29 from 7:15 - 7:50 a.m. in the Upper School Commons. They will make regular, chocolate chip, and pumpkin spice pancakes. Three pancakes cost just $1. Milk, apple and orange juice will be available for 50 cents each. Bring the family for breakfast at school! Proceeds directly benefit the National Honor Society at EDS.



Hispanic Fiesta
Thursday, October 12
1:30 - 3:30 pm
Open to the entire EDS community (all grades, families invited)
Location: Traylor Family Atrium
 
As a culminating activity of our Hispanic Heritage Month cross-divisional projects, we will hold a truly special Fiesta, to celebrate all the wonders of the Hispanic world and to show-case our student accomplishments. This will be a wonderful event that we hope you will not miss! Please allow students to visit the different stations, learn about our world, explore, dance, eat and mingle at this Hispanic Fiesta.    
  • Primary School students will have on display Calabazas (Spanish Pumpkins with Spanish expressions, and Hispanic decorations)
  • 5th graders will showcase their hand-made world maps, highlighting the countries where Spanish is the first language. They will also have a booth to demonstrate their Landfill Harmonic Paraguay Tribute (music and instruments of Hispanic countries - all instruments are student made)
  • 6th graders will showcase their QuinceaƱeras - fiesta de quince aƱos -
  • 7th graders will be dressed as Famous Hispanic People and will have information about famous Hispanic people in the world of art, music, history and literature
  • 8th graders will have hand-made Puerto Rican Carnaval masks on exhibition and will celebrate with their Carnaval de Ponce masks
  • Upper School Spanish students will provide Hispanic music and serve chips and salsa to our visitors
  • Additionally, we will have 4 separate booths displaying the major areas of our Spanish speaking countries in: South America, North/Central America, Spain, and the Caribbean region.
We hope that you will join us for this fun, educational, and culturally rich activity!


Last Chance to Buy a Leaf!
Last call to buy a leaf with your student's name on the Giving Tree! Email Leah Whitaker in the Advancement Office for more information or to pledge your donation. All donors to the Preschool Renovation are invited to attend a wine and cheese reception on Thursday, September 28th at 5:30 pm in the Rainbow Hallway. 



This Week at the Op Shop

Pumpkins and Gourds!
Decorate for fall with the Op Shop! Next week, they will receive a delivery of fresh pie, white, jumbo, and mini pumpkins, as well as a variety of gourds!

The Op Shop is a not-for-profit consignment and resale store established by Evansville Day School families to support school improvements, student scholarships, and general operations. Donations of clothing, jewelry, and household goods are always appreciated, and volunteer opportunities are available as well!

The Op Shop is located at  200 S. Green River Road.

Pictures This Week
On Thursday, four Upper School students participated in a video shoot with Oswald Marketing for an upcoming Evansville Day School commercial. (Look for the link in early October!) Chess Club also began on Thursday after school. If you're interested in joining, see Dr. Bennett.
