Dear Lake Forest High School Families:

This afternoon, Monday, September 25, at 1:30pm, with the assistance of the Lake Forest Police Department, LFHS conducted an unannounced lockdown drill at the school.  The goal of this drill is to help us be prepared in the event of an emergency or police activity in the neighborhood.  You may have seen police and emergency vehicles around our schools and we want to assure you that this was just a drill. This drill will help ensure that we are prepared in the event of a real emergency.  The Illinois State Board of Education mandates three fire drills, one severe weather drill, and at least one enforcement drill each school year.

We have designed a thorough safety and crisis plan, and regularly test these procedures to respond effectively in emergency situations. Our schools are built to meet stringent construction standards, so students are likely to be safer in school than in your own home in the event of a natural disaster.

If an emergency situation were to occur, we request parent and community cooperation and assistance. While parents' instincts during an emergency may be to go to the school to safeguard your child, please understand that doing so may significantly impede the ability to respond to many situations. Large numbers of parents driving to school could severely restrict first responders' ability to access the building to provide care to or to evacuate students and staff. We ask that you trust in the preparedness of the school staff and emergency personnel to swiftly and effectively handle any crisis event, and follow the guidelines explained below:
  1. Do not telephone the school. Telephone lines may be needed for emergency communication. We will employ our BrightArrow phone/email/text system to alert parents in the event of emergency.

  2. In some serious emergency situations, students may be relocated to another facility for safety. Once the students are all accounted for at the remote site, they will be transported by bus to a designated site where you will meet your child.

  3. When you travel to a reunification site, please be sure to bring proper identification.  We can only release students to legal guardians or the authorized individuals you have listed as emergency contacts.
Thank you for reviewing this important information. If you have questions or comments, please contact school Resource Officer Ben Grum at   [email protected] or 847-582-7483.
