Leaders of the Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA) and the Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada (CDF) congratulate Lucie Moncion, President and Chair of Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC) for her recent nomination as one of six new independent senators. The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, P.C., M.P., announced this week that he will recommend to the Governor General of Canada the appointment of Ms. Moncion to serve in the Senate for the province of Ontario.
"This is a great day for Canada's co-operative sector," says CCA President Patrice Pratt. "We congratulate Ms. Moncion on this much-deserved honour and recognition." CDF Chairperson Cheryl Byrne, says: "Ms. Moncion brings extensive knowledge of and expertise in Canada's co-operative sector that will be of great value to the Senate and its work."
Ms. Lucie Moncion is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Alliance des caisses populaires de l'Ontario, a network of credit unions serving francophone communities in northeastern Ontario. She has a deep commitment to community service and participates on various boards of directors, including Vice-President on the Board of Directors at Nipissing University, Treasurer of the Board of Directors of Direction Ontario, and as a member of the Board of Directors at Collège Boréal.
Ms. Moncion became President and Chair of the Board of Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada in 2016 and serves as President of the Conseil de la coopération de l'Ontario. She holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration and has obtained the Chartered Director designation from both Université Laval and McMaster University.
