Finance Professor Chance Pens Op-Ed in The Advocate on Decision to Buy Flood Insurance
LSU Finance Professor Don Chance wrote on op-ed piece for The Advocate that centered on the decision to buy flood insurance and not leaving it up outside parties to make that decision.
In the absence of an insurance policy, Chance wrote, the risk is on the individual and no one else.
"You have a flood loss and you will effectively need to incur additional debt to deal with the flood damage, an amount that could be more than the outstanding balance on your mortgage. In effect, you will pay for a portion of the house twice."
