 New Approach & Program Areas

As we announced this past July, we are shifting our approach and programs to deliver more direct services in an effort to address the most pressing community and population health challenges.

In the coming years, the Kraft Center will aim to catalyze innovative solutions to real world community health problems, execute those solutions locally, and make them scalable and ready to spread nationally to improve health outcomes for disadvantaged populations throughout the Commonwealth and nationally.

Chief among the health challenges are the opioid epidemic facing the nation and tackling the social determinants that lead to inequalities in cancer care. We will also continue to look for ways to promote leadership and training in community health, particularly for underrepresented minority students and those committed to serving medically underserved communities.

Coming Soon:
Mobile Health Program Offering Preventive Care and
Addiction Services

The opioid epidemic is one of the nation's most acute crises. Deaths from opioid overdoses in the US have increased by 400 percent since 2000. We know from working with local communities that substance use disorder is often the top community health concern. Effective life-saving treatments for opioid use disorder are available, but only 5 percent of people with substance use disorders get access to the treatment they need. So, what can we do?

The Kraft Center is very excited to announce that in collaboration with Boston Health Care Program for the Homeless Program, the City of Boston, the Hearst Foundation, the GE Foundation and the Ford Motor Company, we will be piloting a mobile health program offering preventive care and addiction services. The mobile program will focus on hotspots for opioid use and overdose to help individuals in need initiate and continue treatment and link them with long-term, community-based care.
