Giving Thanks at Thanksgiving

We all have much to be thankful for at Thanksgiving - health, happiness, family, friends, and, of course, a bountiful turkey dinner. Likewise, AGA has much to be thankful for -  our volunteers, our donors, our adopters and our fosters. The wonderful work of AGA would not be possible without each of you.

Golden Retrievers are a magnificent breed and our mission is to never say no to a Golden Retriever in need and to never let a Golden die in a shelter. We are proud of our efforts to meet our mission, whether it means bringing in a dog from another state or in doing our part to help rescue Goldens from Istanbul.

During this holiday, the AGA Board of Directors wants to thank each of you for your part in helping us fulfill our mission. Here's wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving.

THE THANKSGIVING DOGS ARE COMING!

Our next flight of Turkey Dogs, the TD13s, are arriving this month. We need fosters, sponsors, donors and adopters for our Thanksgiving Dogs. If you would like to foster, fill out a Foster Application. Visit the Turkey Dog Page on our website for more info on sponsoring, adopting and donating to our TD mission.

Orphans of the Month
SHEBA and TYLER

No, they're not Golden Retrievers.
But they are adorable male and
female 8-year-old black labs who lived
together all their life until their
owner abandoned them when he moved
out-of-state.
Watch their video to learn more about them and what they want in an adoptive
home. And come to Adoption Day on Sunday and see how awesome they are!

10 Thanksgiving foods your dog can't eat

Yes, Thanksgiving is a special day, and while  you might want to share some of your holiday feast with your Golden, think twice about what it is. This list of 10 foods from a PolicyGenius article outlines what you should avoid feeding your precious pooch. According to the article, humans spend, on average, $185.80 more to take care of a pet's upset stomach over the Thanksgiving weekend than other days.
ASK THE TRAINER
What is your dog saying?

Barks, growls, howls, whines, and whimpers - your dog is talking to you, and he's got a lot to say! Is it a distress bark or a plea to play? What is a sound of pain vs. boredom?
Check out this article from The
Whole Dog Journal  to learn more about your dog's vocal communication.

GEORGIA GIVES DAY

November 17 is Georgia Gives Day.
Medical expenses for our AGA rescues are particularly high right now.  AGA is asking our volunteers to help us raise money for medication, heartworm treatments, and surgeries needed by a number of our rescues on medical hold. For these rescues, every dollar counts!  Please help us beat our $2,500 record by donating $10, $25, $50 or more on this special day. Don't forget to maximize your gift by letting your company's matching donation program know you donated on Nov 17th!

Georgia Gives Day is a 24-hour, statewide giving event that has raised more than $9 million for Georgia nonprofits in its three years. Tens of thousands of Georgians will be donating to the nonprofit of their choice on November 17th!

It's easy to participate! Simply visit Georgia Gives Day, click on "DONATE" at the top of the page, and find us under the Animals category listed right at the top.  Donations can be made with a credit card or echeck.   Help AGA raise needed funds for rescue medical expenses - visit GAgivesday.org and donate on November 17th!
