CARA to Host Winter Safety Seminar
As the days get shorter and colder, the Chicago Area Runners Association wants to make sure its runners are safe, especially after a summer with several attacks on runners.
The city's largest running club is hosting a
Winter Safety Seminar from 6 to 7:30 p.m. next Thursday at the Road Runner Sports in Kingsbury Center. CARA Director of Training Leah Bohr will provide tips on dressing for winter running, and discuss training plans. Following, a Chicago Police Department officer will present a safety demonstration to teach runners self-defense moves to use if they become a victim of assault.
Also at the event will be members from the F^3 Half Marathon and NovaCare to give a short presentation. The event is open and to all Winter Pass participants and CARA members, but CARA requests those interested
RSVP.

Cyclocross: Preparing for Late-Season Weather
The cyclocross season is in full swing, which means the mercury is plunging while the racing is heating up. Unfortunately, the heated competition alone won't keep you warm, so it's best to know some tricks of the trade for warming up and staying warm during these cold late season racing months.
With the state, regional and national races running from late November through December into January, the environment can be varied depending on weather patterns and geographic locations. The national race in January has been held in various venues from Iowa to Texas, with this year's race being held in Connecticut, so being prepared when race day is cold is just as important as the training regime leading up to it.
Important things to keep in mind are your warm up routine, clothing selection and traction. Learn more about how to prepare for Cyclocross weather
here.

Flock to Evanston this Thanksgiving for a 5K
Every Thanksgiving, you consume tons of calories and end up feeling like a stuffed turkey yourself by the end of the day. What if we told you that you can run a race in the morning, so you only feel like an unstuffed turkey after the meal?
The Evanston Subaru Flying Turkey 5K presented by NorthShore University HealthSystem invites you and your family to dress up like turkeys and pilgrims to celebrate the holiday at the sixth annual 5K run. The race takes place on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 24, and begins at Sheridan Road and Church Street in Evanston. The 3.1-mile course takes runners along the Evanston lakefront path, and loops around Northwestern University's campus.
Registration for the Flying Turkey 5K is now open, and costs $30 until Nov. 5, when the price increases to $35.
For more information, including a course map, volunteer requests and packet pickup details, visit the race website.
