Message from the President

As we roll into the fall season and close out the third quarter your Alabama CCIM Chapter is actively promoting the designation on your behalf.  Our new website goes live this month at www.alccim.com.  Thank you to Derek Carson of Stilt Group, LLC for his work in designing the new site.  Members can now more easily register for local events and will soon be able to submit their completed transactions to be highlighted statewide.

The new site is part of a focused effort to promote the CCIM designation. You will begin seeing a difference in the way we go about that promotion.  Our message is aimed at those who most need the services of a CCIM and helping them realize that they should have a CCIM in their corner when making CRE decisions.   Our initial marketing efforts will target lawyers, accountants and other professionals who have clients with commercial real estate needs.  CCIM's are the best in the business and we want buyers, sellers and users of commercial property to routinely seek out CCIM designees before they get involved in CRE transactions.

We are excited to announce that we will be offering all four CCIM core classes in Alabama during the 2017 calendar year.  We have never been able to do this in Alabama before now.  If you have a candidate in your office that needs one or more classes, please encourage them to watch the new website for more information on scheduling.  Classes will be held in February (CI 101), March (CI 102), September (CI 103) and October (CI 104).  We will offer portfolio workshops to assist candidates in starting and completing their portfolios for submission. There is no better time for candidates to finish their designation.

In November we will be awarding four more scholarships from the Alabama CCIM Chapter; one to a CCIM Candidate and three to college students pursuing a degree in commercial real estate.  Applications for scholarships are available at www.alccim.com . The Alabama CCIM Chapter in conjunction with ACRE and under the leadership of Grayson Glaze and Patrick Agee have been hosting a series of student outreach programs at Alabama colleges and universities.  The most recent of which took place at the University of South Alabama and the University of Alabama Huntsville where students heard from industry professionals speaking on career opportunities in commercial real estate. Alabama college students know that CCIM is the leading CRE designation.

The Central Alabama Market Symposium is being held on Friday, November 18 at the Harbert Center in Birmingham.  We have an exciting slate of speakers including the President of the CCIM Institute, Steven W. Moreira, CCIM, Michael Shattuck, Director of Research, Birmingham Business Alliance and Greg Barker, Executive Vice President, Alabama Power Company's office of Economic Development.  We expanded the venue this year to include more seats but they are going very fast. This event sells out every year.  Please go to www.alccim.com to register now.

The annual CCIM Holiday party will move to a new home atop the John Hand Building in downtown Birmingham.   The event will be held Tuesday, December 6th in the John Hand Club with beautiful views of the downtown skyline.  Many thanks to our Director of Programs, Kathy Dennis and her committee.  They have produced several successful events so far this year and the holiday party is going to be better than ever with special features, giveaways and promotions included.  Please join us for a celebration of the holidays and the closing of a very successful year for your Alabama CCIM Chapter.

Sincerely,
Bryan A. Holt, CCIM
2016 Chapter President
