Lighted Holiday Parade

The Lighted Holiday Parade will take place on Jefferson Street on Saturday, November 26 at 5 PM. There is still time for businesses, organizations, and church groups to enter a float. This year's theme will be "We Believe." You can download the parade entry form at Greaterburlington.com or call Downtown Partners at 319-208-0056. Thanks to presenting sponsor Two Rivers Bank & Trust for making the Downtown Partners holiday events possible.
Holiday Shop Hops Return

Every Thursday evening until Christmas beginning on November 10, many downtown merchants will be open late to fit customers' busy schedules. The great majority of retail shopping takes place after 5 PM. Happily, we are seeing more businesses embrace evening and weekend hours (which also plays off the restaurant traffic), making downtown even more of a destination.
The Latest News...
  • Thanks to all those who supported Downtown Partners with their contributions in the recent 144 Envelopes fundraiser. We sincerely appreciate the affirmation that our work IS making a positive impact.
  • Thanks also to all those merchants who passed out candy for the Downtown Trick or Treat. This event continues to grow, and this was the biggest year yet. We also appreciate the assistance of the Des Moines Co. CERT team in handling traffic control.

  • And yet more thanks - Zaiser's has done a great job with the downtown flower planters this year! We've received many compliments on how attractive they are.

  • Congratulations to Burlington Bent River Brewing at 500 Jefferson and Beancounter Coffeehouse and Drinkery at 212 Jefferson - two fantastic additions to downtown! A brewpub and a coffeehouse open late have consistently been two of our most requested businesses, and it is great to see the energy they have brought to downtown in the evenings. We wish them every success.

  • Some news about 300 Washington, the old Typewriter Shop, which is owned by Downtown Partners. The organization has been awarded grant funding from the DNR to pay for fifty percent of the cost of asbestos removal. We expect the work to be done yet this fall.

  • Supplier issues have been overcome, and work is again proceeding quickly on the rehab of the depot's grand waiting room. With the depot being a point of entry for visitors and a symbol of Burlington's railroad heritage, it is exciting to see this long awaited (like 20+ years) work taking place!

  • The City has assembled an advisory committee to recommend actions outlined in the comprehensive downtown parking study released earlier this year. Be looking for several improvements in the coming months.

  • We've got some great things planned for Living Windows on December 8! The event was just featured in the new issue of The Iowan magazine.
