Join Us for Sunday Evening Worship
We'll remember and celebrate the lives of those saints that have impacted all of us as Butch Williams preaches this Sunday on "NOT the Final Word!" from Luke 20:27-38. Also, mark your calendars for a special evening with Bishop Debra Wallace-Padgett on November 20th!
vds A Big Month at the Day School
October was a busy and fun-filled month at Vestavia Day School. Our four and five-year-old students took their first field trip to Old Baker Farm and learned about the pumpkin patch and the animals there! It was a great day and everyone had fun. We also had a school-wide Spirit Week, October 17-21. Each day had a fun theme like "Wacky Wednesday", "Pajama Day", and "Superhero/Character Day." The week was topped off by a visit from VHFD and the fire engines on Friday. We finished the month with our Costume Parade through the church on Halloween. See the video on our website. It is always so fun to see all the children in their costumes! Thank you for your continued support of our ministry. We can be reached by phone at 769-0128 and by email through our website, www.vestaviadayschool.org.
Help Us Help You
VHUMC is looking at our spiritual development options across the church so we need your input on classes and program offerings to help "everyone experience a Christ-centered life of purpose". Please take a couple of minutes to answer these few questions so we can plan according to your needs.

Coping with Mental Health Challenges and Addictions in Families
Every family eventually faces a mental health or addiction challenge and most families are totally unprepared. The holidays increase stresses that can create a crisis point. We are offering a special session at two different times to help you prepare to help friends and family when that moment comes. Rev. Monica Harbarger (Director of United Counseling), Monica Carroll (attorney and church member who deals with mental health cases), and Rev. Kipp McClurg will look at how to recognize and point family members to help, and how to get legal help if all else fails. Join them on Sunday, November 13, at 9:45 am, in Tyson Hall, or on Wednesday evening, November 16, at 6:00 pm, in room 206.
Who is Baby Jesus?
Each year we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the infant of Mary. But who is Jesus and what does his birth really mean? Using the Disciple Bible curriculum, the pastoral staff will try to answer that question in a new series taught both on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings. Join us Wednesdays at 6:00 pm, in room 202, on 11/9, 11/16, and 11/30; or on Sundays at 10:00 am, in Tyson Hall, on 11/27, 12/4, 12/11, and 12/18 to learn about our God incarnate in Jesus Christ.
Magical Marketplace is Coming
Get a head start on your holiday shopping at our 18th Annual Magical Marketplace on Friday, November 18, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Shop for art, jewelry, baked goods, stationery, clothing, baby gifts, holiday goodies, and much more from over 80 vendors. Many of your favorite vendors will be joining us and we will also welcome 17 new vendors! Boxed lunches are available for $7. Proceeds from the sale this year will benefit the Mitchell's Place Scholarship Fund.

Once again, we will feature a wonderful bake sale and we would love to include your specialty items. If you are able to help us out by baking cakes, cookies, pies, or any other specialty goody, we would love to benefit from your skills. Baked items can be dropped off anytime Thursday, November 17, in the front office.
Youth Madrigal Dinner
Don't miss our feasting and hilarity, our music and our revelry at our 2nd VHUMC Madrigal Dinner. Our New Life Singers (youth choir) will be in full costume and full of clever comedy as we visit a 16th century castle for food, fun, and frolicking. Tickets will go on sale soon. Please mark your calendars for Sunday, November 27. For more information please contact Quint Harris ([email protected] / 769-0114).
Youth Veteran's Day Mission
Join us for our annual youth Veterans Day mission event on Friday, November 11 from 10:00-1:00! We will pack 500 lunches as a youth group in the Fellowship Hall before dividing into High School and Middle School groups to deliver the lunches around Birmingham.

Middle School students will share lunches with those in the neighborhood around Highlands UMC and be back to VHUMC by 1:00 pm. High School students will deliver lunches to The Church of the Reconciler and will then have the opportunity of taking a tour of their church to learn more about the ministries they offer to the community.

We need adult volunteers to help make this happen! We need help packing lunches, driving vans, and walking with the youth to pass out the lunches. If you are interested in helping, please email Emily Boles ([email protected]).
November Memory Verse
Our 1st - 5th graders have a new memory verse for November. It is, "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long" - Psalm 23:6. They can recite the verse before or after Sunday School in the sensory room (next door to the elementary office) for a sweet treat and a chance to win a bike at the end of the school year!
Men's Hiking Ministry Planning Meeting
The VHUMC Men's Hiking ministry will be having a planning meeting on Monday November 14 at 6:30 pm in room 201 (Small Dining room) to plan the details for our Rocky Mountain National Park hike next September. We will also be looking at dates for shorter hikes and day hikes throughout the year. For more information please contact Jim Frazier ([email protected] / 769-0126).
