PEN vs PV FOOTBALL GAME THIS FRIDAY
I expect all Peninsula High students to display outstanding sportsmanship during the Peninsula versus PV game on Friday, November 4. All Peninsula High students are expected to show great respect for the PV High campus before, during and after the game. All Peninsula High students are expected to follow our school's "Zoo Rules", which are listed below.
Zoo Rules
The Zoo has a strong tradition at Peninsula High and has a reputation for being classy. As part of being "classy" the Zoo will:
- cheer FOR Peninsula and not against our opponents,
- support the officials,
- maintain a positive attitude.
All students are encouraged to actively participate in the Zoo, but if the following rules are violated the Zoo can be taken away indefinitely.
In order to keep the Zoo there are certain rules that must be followed:
- No booing
- No profanity or obscene gestures
- No masks covering the face
- No noise makers (including, but not limited to: voo voo zallaz, cow-bells, clappers, thunder sticks and horns)
- No face or body paint
In the event that an individual violates any of the rules listed above they will be escorted out of the Zoo and may be suspended from the game, and the consequences may be decided by the administration.
The rivalry between Peninsula and PV High is fun and exciting! Let's all have a great time!

THANK YOU MRS. BLACKWOOD
Friday, October 28 was Mrs. Blackwood's last day as the Registrar of Peninsula High. She has been the friendly face that every newly enrolling family has met when they enrolled in our high school over the past four years. Her kindness, compassion, efficiency, and many talents will be greatly missed. We wish her all the best in her retirement and hope she will visit often as a "forever member" of our Panther family.
DIEDRE HEIMER JOINS THE PEN COUNSELING OFFICE STAFF
Deirdre Heimer is a native of Brooklyn, New York whose family moved to Rancho Palos Verdes when she was 4 years old. She is a product of PVPUSD having attended Silver Spur Elementary, Malaga Cove Intermediate and Rolling Hills High School. After graduating from Cal State Long Beach with a degree in Political Science she married her high school sweet heart, Chris Heimer and after a short stint in Torrance settled in Rancho Palos Verdes where they raised their two daughters now ages 22 and 25. Deirdre took 6 years off of work to be home with the girls. In February of 2001 she took what she considers to be the best part time job on the hill, working behind the scenes in Peninsula High School's Music Department. After 14 years working part time, it was time to seek a full time gig. On to District offices where Deirdre was in charge of Facilities Rentals for all 18 campuses, working with every organization that utilizes our facilities after school and on weekends. But with her daughters grown, she missed the energy of working with kids. She is excited to be back at Peninsula High School in the role of Registrar. In her spare time, she loves to cook, go wine tasting, fishing in Alaska and occasional skydiving.

SPEECH AND DEBATE #1
Congratulations Pen High Speech and Debate
SPEECH AND DEBATE UPDATE
One-hundred and thirty-nine debaters from fifty schools and seven states attended the fifth annual Voices Invitational at Presentation High School in San Jose, California the weekend of October 8-10.
Prior to the tournament proper, eighteen of the country's top Lincoln-Douglas (LD) debaters were invited to participate in the Voices Round Robin. Peninsula senior Jonas Le Barillec won his "pod" and semifinal round and was crowned tournament co-champion. In the main tournament, Jonas reached the quarterfinal round and junior Ishan Gaur reached the double-octafinal round (top 32) in varsity LD. Jonas was also the tournament's second-highest ranked speaker. As a result of his finish, Jonas received his second bid to the Tournament of Champions (TOC) in Lexington, KY in April, and is now fully qualified.
Five-hundred, eighty-two debaters from ninety-one schools and twenty-one states attended the Heart of Texas Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament at the St. Mark's School of Texas this past weekend in Dallas. In policy debate, Peninsula seniors Raam Tambe and Jerry Wang were tournament champions. Raam was top speaker and Jerry was sixth speaker. The two have won both national "octas bid" level tournaments held this year, as well as the last five tournaments they have competed in. In Lincoln-Douglas debate, Peninsula junior Ishan Gaur and senior Jonas Le Barillec reached the quarterfinal round. Ishan went a perfect 6-0 in prelims. Jonas was 3rd speaker. As a result of their finish, Raam and Jerry received their third bid to the TOC, though the team is automatically qualified based on last year's finish. Jonas also received his third TOC bid, and Ishan his first. Concurrently, the St. Mark's school hosted the Sophomore Hoe-Down, inviting the thiry-six best sophomore policy debate teams in the country. The Peninsula sophomore team of Kaylen Ng and Natasha Tieu reached the quarterfinal round (top 8), going 10-2 in their "pod." The sophomore team of Julian Anderson and Kevin Sun went 9-3 in their pod, barely missing advancing on tiebreakers.
