RIPPLES NOVEMBER 2016
 Volume: 27
Issue: 3

Don't let your jack-o-lantern languish in a landfill, drop it off at a pumpkin collection to compost it. The nutrients and water will go back to Illinois soils. Over 25 locations in the suburbs! Find one near you.

Volunteers are still needed for a few locations - contact us to get involved!

Check out some local leaders in green! Dist 93 students ask parents to #turnitoff, Dist 204 lunchrooms go green, and a Woodridge Eagle Scout supports clean water.
Three environmental books we recommend checking out for your elementary classroom. Featured story topics: Water, Worms, and Gardens - oh my!
Did you know that recycling not only saves resources but it also saves water and energy? Make a pledge to improve recycling in America - start with your school.

Teachers get your students involved in this project! SCARCE wants to work with HS/college students to create foreign language educational videos on the smart grid and energy efficiency. Equipment provided. Cash prizes.

Get funding for an outdoor education field trip or to build a schoolyard habitat through the Biodiversity Field Trip Grant (due: Jan 31, 2017) and the Schoolyard Habitat Grant (due: Nov 30, 2016).
SCARCE's Green Fair returned October 23rd - check out all the fun we had at the DuPage County Fairgrounds and get excited for next year!

As a follow-up to the new food donation law for schools, we propose the first, simple step for schools wanting to reduce food waste: a lunchroom sharing table.
The Woodridge police station is now collecting medicines for safe disposal. The medicine collection bin can be accessed M-F 8am-4:30pm - be sure to empty pills into a ziploc bag!

Are you deep frying a turkey this holiday season? Find out how to handle liquid cooking oil to protect water quality, wildlife, and your wallet.

Visit us from 3pm-7pm - check out our book rescue and demo some of our hands-on education tools. Light refreshments provided. We look forward to seeing you!
Welcome Sidney Kenyon! If you want to get your class or club involved in Adopt-a-Trail email [email protected].

Get a jump start on holiday shopping at B&N Oakbrook and support SCARCE with your purchases. Proceeds support education programs and our book rescue.

Does your HS volunteer organization need more activities?  We need volunteers to man a donation-based wrapping table on Tuesday, Nov 22nd during our Barnes & Noble Fundraiser. All proceeds will benefit our education programs and book rescue.

The holiday shopping season starts with Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Now kick off the season of giving by supporting SCARCE on #GivingTuesday. Help us meet our $11,350.00 match!

The calendar is filling up! Check out our programs and call to schedule hands-on programming for your classroom. Earn your Earth Flag, Ecology Flag, or Water Quality Flag this year! Have questions? Need something customized to your curriculum? Give us a call!
