REMINDER: Join us for a  CEQA WORKSHOP on Sept 30
Carpools/scholarships available! See you there!
IMPORTANT: CEQA Workshop 9/30!
Thank you to everyone who took time from their busy schedules to attend the Bonsall Unified School District's (BUSD) September meeting where the Board approved funding for a study focusing on widening Gird Road.  Take a few minutes to send an email to the Board noting your concerns since virtually every car will be forced to access the site via a single or double left turn lane across Gird Road. Urge  them to choose an alternate site because Gird Valley not suitable for a 1,500-student high school and large performing arts center.

We expect Bonsall Unified School District (BUSD) to announce in October/November that it has completed its draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) as required under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).  SaveGirdValley.com submitted lengthy comments on this EIR process but BUSD (and the developers pushing it to overbuild in spite of financial difficulties) will most likely continue to ignore the community's wishes and attempt to move forward.  Once BUSD completes its draft EIR, we move into a 45-day comment period, the time when government agencies, the public and advocacy groups can comment on the EIR.

To this end, it is EXTREMELY important for you to attend CEQA Workshop  hosted by environmental attorney Kevin Johnson!  The Workshop will be held on September 30, at 2051 Café, 2051 Palomar Airport Road, Carlsbad and begins at 9:00 AM (check in at 8:30 AM), finishes at 4 PM. The cost is $45 ( ask us about scholarships and carpools), for an enormous amount of key information, a CEQA Handbook and lunch.

The Planning and Conservation League (PCL) says: " Kevin Johnson is a CEQA Attorney and civil litigator with law offices in Carlsbad, California. He has been a member of the PCL Board of Directors since 1987 and serves on a number of PCL Board Committees. ... Mr. Johnson's law practice emphasizes representation of national, state, regional and local environmental organizations and citizens groups."

PCL was formed in 1965 "to protect California from the destruction caused by fast-paced and poorly planned developments. For over 50 years, PCL has been working in the halls of California's Capitol to promote cutting-edge policies that safeguard our lands, air, waters, and communities, while building strong coalitions and empowering the public."

We look forward to seeing you at Kevin Johnson's CEQA workshop on September 30. If you plan on doing any work in the environmental arena in the future, this is your chance to learn all about these very important issues so please attend this workshop to gain the skills you need to make you effective!

Sincerely,

Teresa Platt
Steering Committee Member
