The Ohio Valley Arabian Horse Association recently established two memorial donations in memory of  Bill Pennington and Shirley Izor.  Both passed away this summer.  Bill Pennington was a member for many years of OVAHA and served as president at one time.  Shirley's late husband, Larry, was a former president of OVAHA.  The club sponsored a gift certificate in memory of Bill to the AHA Sport Horse Nationals.  The gift certificate will be given randomly to one of the "first timers" showing at Sport Horse Nationals in memory of Bill. He served many years on the Sport Horse Nationals show committee and  was a big proponent of the Sport Horse Nationals.  The ribbon will be given out one evening and will be marked as the Bill Pennington Award ribbon.  OVAHA funded a memorial donation to the Preble County Horse Advisors in memory of Shirley.  It will be marked for the "Shirley Izor Good Sportsmanship Award," and will be given at a show to a 4-H member who exemplifies good sportsmanship.  Shirley and Larry were 4-H advisors for many years in Preble County.

2016 OHIO BROWN COUNTY FAIR
Looking for a high quality, low cost show for your Arabian/Half-Arabian?  Would it thrill you to show in an arena where the crowd stands three deep to get a look at your horse... a grandstand filled with horse enthusiasts...? Ever consider the Brown County Fair?
YOU SHOULD!!  It's a wonderful opportunity to showcase the versatility of our Arabian/Half-Arabian breed and to successfully compete in an all-breed show.

This gem in Georgetown, OH celebrated its' 165th  event in 2016.  Brown County Fair meets or exceeds expectations of the fair goer...fabulous food, merchandise vendors, tractor pulls, farm animals; the real draw of this family friendly event is the all-breed/multi-discipline horse show.  This is not your typical county fair horse show with 85,000 plus spectators/exhibitors, vendors, etc.  Local schools close for the week to permit participation by 4-H members and the horse show is main ring entertainment Thursday through Sunday.

Brown County Fairs' horse show is held in an outdoor arena, which boasts awesome footing and is meticulously maintained year round. Each event has its' own committee working diligently to provide this top notch horse show with good judges and schedules.  Also included, championship class winners receive an 8x10 produced by great photographer John Fann and exhibitors pay only if they win/place in the class.  This fair also has a long standing relationship with some of the most recognized names in the Arabian community.

Dick and Helen Lodwick owned the largest Arabian breeding farm in the area and were the proud owners of a Raffles stallion, Rafden. Dick and Helen were integral in introducing the Arabian horse to the Brown County Fair circa 1960. The Lodwicks felt all-breed shows are better attended by spectators and truly introduces a broader population to our breed.  The Lodwick family have maintained an active relationship with the fair throughout the years, serving on boards and committees, with their son-in-law Phil Haines currently serving as horse show manager.

The Bill and JoAnne Pennington family are also long time exhibitors of Arabians at Brown County Fair.  They began showing in halter and performance in 1966 and their daughters Jenny and Carol still exhibit today, as well as some of the grandchildren. Bill and JoAnne have long been recognized as leaders in the Arabian community, with Bill considered a visionary for the Arabian breed. Upon his passing, the William Pennington Memorial Youth Scholarship Fund was established with the Arabian Horse Foundation.

So if you're looking for a show with a broad range of Arabian/Half-Arabian classes as well as open breed classes, please consider the Brown County Fair. A horse show with 'class act' standards and an audience that will contribute to the adrenaline rush of showing Arabians.
