Yoga Beyond Words with Cara-Lynne Auld

Lest we forget..
Patanjali's Yoga Sutra is a sort of guide book on how to live like a yogi, kind of a map for a meaningful and purposeful life. In a very basic outline, this yogic philosophy manual has eight components or limbs we are to follow. The first of these limbs is the yamas, the ethical guidelines, and the first one is Ahimsa, the practice of non-violence.
I've been thinking about this as the poppies are beginning to appear here in Ottawa and across the country. It may seem a bit irreconcilable believing in both Ahimsa, and Remembrance Day. How does the peace and grooviness of yoga mesh with the violence of war? Read

Meet Lyssa Ryan...
What inspired your love of yoga?
When I decided to start practicing yoga 7 years ago I was a new mom spending half my days loving being a new mom and the other half feeling very isolated and alone. I had a big career and big life before I had kids and all of a sudden I just became a big mom. A friend introduced me to Yoga and it completely and totally changed my life. I met so many inspiring teachers, and along the way began to feel this deep connection into making yoga my next big career.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about my family, my dogs, life music, and people! I aspire to live every day in a space of compassion, connectedness, love, kindness, acceptance and wonder.
In my spare time I enjoy playing American girl with my two young daughters, beating my husband in freeze dance, playing piano, reading about Yoga, doing Yoga, studying Yoga and snuggling with my two Chihuahua's .
What's on your yoga playlist?

Beyond proudly supports:
T
he Kanata Food Cupboard provided food assistance to 335 adults and 250 children as part of this year's Thanksgiving program. Families received bags of potatoes and carrots, a frozen turkey, and all the trimmings for a complete holiday meal. Thank you to everyone in Kanata who helped us provide Thanksgiving meals to these families.
Bring your family to the
Kanata Santa Claus parade on Saturday, November 12! The parade begins at 10 a.m. and winds through the Glen Cairn area of Kanata. The Kanata Food Cupboard will be on hand to collect non-perishable food donations along the parade route. Members of Ottawa Fire Services will be collecting monetary donations for the Kanata Food Cupboard as well. Come out and enjoy the parade!

Sometimes those of us working in violence against women services are asked:
"SINCE CRIME RATES IN CANADA ARE FALLING, IS VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN STILL A SERIOUS PROBLEM?
" The answer is, unfortunately, YES!
According to the Canadian Women's Foundation:
- On any given night in Canada, 3,491 women and their 2,724 children sleep in shelters because it isn't safe at home
- On any given night, about 300 women and children are turned away because shelters are already full
Chrysalis House runs pretty much at capacity at all times.

"Project Purse"
is a charity campaign that started here in Ottawa in 2015 by Tanya O'Connor. She started "Project Purse" to help homeless women across the city.
Last year 500 purses were donated to local women's shelters.
This year's donations will support St. Joe's Women's Centre.
Here's how you can help:
- Grab an old purse you don't want anymore
- Fill it up (with items listed in attachment). The Dollar Store is a great place to pick up these items!
- Invite your friends/family/colleagues/clients to donate a purse
If you'd like to donate a purse(s) please drop it off at Beyond by
Saturday, November 25th. Thank you for your support!

Wellness Tips with Therapeutic Effects

TMJ
T
emporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the joint that forms when our jaw meets our skull on the side of our head. Dysfunction of the joint can cause TMJ disorder, headaches, migraines and jaw clicking to name a few. Massage can help TMJ dysfunction through both intra-oral and external massage of the muscles around the joint. Talk to your massage therapist to see if TMJ work should be included in your massage.
