TK Pumpkin Science: "TK Scientists predicted whether or not their pumpkin will sink or float. Then we graphed our predictions and next tested the pumpkins! We culminate our learning with a visit to the pumpkin patch next week." Ms. Chandler

TK/K Chapel - Fruit of the Spirit: LOVE
Over the course of a year in chapel, our Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students learn about the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. This week, TK teacher, Ms. Chandler, introduced them to the first Fruit of the Spirit: LOVE.
Drawing the outline of a heart on a paper towel, Ms. Chandler explained that this heart looks empty, just like our hearts before we accept God's love. As she explained about Jesus' death on the cross, she filled in the heart with a red magic marker. This was to symbolize that our heart can be filled up with God's love for us, if we believe that Jesus died for us. When our heart is full of God's love, we will want to spread that love to others around us. To illustrate this for the children, Ms. Chandler drew three other empty heart outlines on the paper towel, and then submerged it in a shallow pan of water.
Just like the paper towel soaked up the water and spread the red marker to the other hearts, we can allow God to "saturate" our lives in such a way that it overflows and spreads to others.
"We love because He first loved us." I John 4:19
Elementary Chapel
The focus for our elementary chapel for our 1st -5th graders this week was The Doxology. Mr. Lucas and Mrs. Harding taught this beautiful song of praise to "all creatures here below" at MCS, and then Mr. Perkins helped the students understand the history and language of the simple chorus. It is a 300 year old hymn written by Englishman, Thomas Ken. Mr. Perkins explained that hymns are not only songs of praise, but they also teach us something about God and His Word.
Enjoy watching Mr. Lucas and Mrs. Harding teaching The Doxology to our students.
Family questions: Thinking about people historically, why was it important 300 years ago to use songs to teach people about God? How does The Doxology refer to the Holy Spirit?

PTF Teacher Blessing Fund
Our annual and optional opportunity to bless our teachers, aides, and specialists with an end of the year monetary gift continues through November 1. The goal of the MCS Parent Teacher Fellowship Blessing Fund is to give parents an opportunity to show our collective appreciation to MCS teachers, aides and specialists and bless them with a monetary "group gift" that is both generous and equally distributed. Additionally, it is a means to simplify gift giving for MCS families. The Teacher Blessing Fund will be distributed by the Room Moms in June of 2017 at the Character Awards.

Welcome Home 8th Grade
We are thankful for another amazing 8th grade trip to Washington, DC. It was a week full of learning covered in tremendous blessings.
7th grade students served at OC Food Bank packing meals for the elderly, picked up trash in the marshes of the Back Bay, and pulled weeds growing in the Bolsa Chica wetlands.
They also blessed the office staff and their own neighbors with treats and goodie bags. They ended their week with a special breakfast (provided by their amazing moms) and a fun day at Boomers.
