DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE:
Mr. James McGrath

Welcome Triton Families,

It is exciting to come off such a successful first year, and welcome another class of Tritons into our family. As we embark on our second year, we look forward to preparing our students for college and the workforce. More now than ever, the “hard” skills that employers demand now, are not the same skills that will be needed 20, or even 10 years, down the road. Jobs disappear or drastically change. What is needed, we are repeatedly told from the Googles and UCLAs of the world, are the “soft” skills that are transferred no matter what career is chosen, soft skills such as open-mindedness, humility, and critical thinking.

I can think of no better place to have our students challenged and engaged in thinking than our community. Our small classes and culture of care provide the safe space for students to think outside the box, get to know themselves, and receive the support needed to overcome whatever challenge comes their way. Our students can be themselves, and there are few limits when they challenge their authentic selves to new heights.

This is your community too! Get to know other parents, be involved with our events and after-school sports/extracurriculars. There is so much to our community. We can find strength in sharing our experiences and interests with each other, and others in your community.

I look forward to meeting you at Back to School Night next Thursday.

Sincerely,

James McGrath
Founding Director

OUR FIRST COMMUNITY MEETING!

The Academy prioritizes relationships as essential to a supportive learning environment. In addition to building a positive classroom culture, we set aside time, once a month to celebrate the learning that is happening at the Academy, as a community. Students and teachers take turns highlighting the thinking and learning taking place in their classrooms and embrace the authentic platform to develop their presentation skills. Students develop their voice, and are given the opportunity to listen to the diverse perspectives of their classmates.

Community meetings follow the Developmental Designs advisory protocol and include a greeting, a share, a group activity, and announcements. We also take time to celebrate community members who have demonstrated at least one of the virtues, and acknowledge birthdays. Community meetings may feature poetry slams, dance and music performances, thought experiments, dramatic re-enactments, and more.
