I've always loved the wit and wisdom of Dr. Seuss - first as a child and later as a parent reading to my own kids. Today, in my role with ITEP, I get renewed inspiration from the Doctor every time I read those famous lines from
Oh, the Places You'll Go!
Life is an exhilarating and terrifying journey that brings ups and downs, failures and successes "98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed." What I love about ITEP is that we get to help young people navigate this journey with confidence and capability. Together, we help them reach their mountains.
So, take a moment to enjoy some of the highlights from this last month, and don't ever forget...

GPS Your Future Welcomes 653 ITEP Students and Keynote Speaker, Stedman Graham
The biggest career exploration event took place on October 14th at Cal State University Dominguez and filled an expo hall, various breakout sessions, and one gym with 653 ITEP students! Keynote speaker, Stedman Graham spoke to students about taking charge to create their own identities and working hard to create success.

Phineas Banning High School '14
Where she is now:
Junior at California State University Maritime Academy studying
Business Administration / International Business & Logistics.
What Mayra wants to share with you:
My parents did not go past middle school and neither of my brothers attended college. Because of this, college never really crossed my mind.
Fortunately because of ITEP, I was able to see that there was more out there than just the whole 9 miles of Wilmington.
During my ITEP internship at the Port of Los Angeles, Captain Jim Morgan gave a presentation about Cal Maritime and I knew that was the school for me. I want to give back upon my graduation and pursue a career in the maritime industry. I would also love to serve as a mentor to a high school student.

LAX Welcomes the Next Generation of Air Cargo Professionals
Thirteen ITEP students from Gardena High School received a first-hand look of the air cargo business. During a recent visit to LAX, students received a terminal tour of Korean Air and learned about the many careers in the air cargo industry. Their trip also included a visit to the Flight Path Museum where they learned about the history of aviation and received a briefing by Ross Vitale of LAX Community Relations.

Earning the Right to Lead
Every year more than 100 students from Phineas Banning High School's International Trade Academy participate in the
Earning the Right Conference. The event serves as an official welcome for new students in the ITEP-supported academy. This year, the conference was moved off the high school campus and into L.A. Harbor College.
Students spent the morning team-building and networking with board members and their peers. The afternoon was spent in breakout sessions where they learned about careers in finance, marketing, the public sector, and STEM. Students also participated in a session led by ITEP alumni to learn about life after high school and the college experience through the eyes of alums.
A big thank you to L.A. Harbor College, especially Michael Caress and Priscilla Lopez. We would also like to acknowledge Sergio Carrillo of Carrillo Strategies, Patrick Wilson of Fast Lane Transportation, Captain Heyman of Los Angeles Maritime Institute, Captain Louttit of Marine Exchange of Southern California, Captain Sam Jebananthan of Metro Ports, Phineas Banning High School faculty and staff: Principal Rudy Mendoza, Assistant Principal Griselda Espinoza, Leticia Finley, Alexis Antonio, and Jaqueline Espinoza. Thanks to Pasha Stevedoring and Terminals, 18 ITEP students from Phineas Banning High School participated in the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF) in Washington DC. During the conference, students participated in workshops and real-world simulations focused on national security.
A very special thank you to Pasha, especially Jeff Burgin and the many ITEP supporters who continue to fund this memorable trip year after year.
