The most powerful faculty of the mind is the SPOKEN WORD. This energy of creation that we all have must not be underestimated. It can limit us if we allow ourselves to talk about what is going wrong in our lives. If we align with Spirit, it can heal. It can even prevent a hurricane from touching our home and property!

My sister Marcia Carlo lives in West Palm Beach, Florida. All of the ministers and practitioners here at CSL DE were praying during Hurricane Irma, knowing her complete protection and well-being. I saw her home surrounded in light. She and I repeated  James Dillet Freeman's "Prayer of Protection" before and during the hurricane.

The Light of God surrounds us.
The Love of God enfolds us.
The Power of God protects us.
The Presence of God watches over us.
Wherever we are, God is.

She sent me a video to show the power of the SPOKEN WORD that protected her home. She called the zone around her home that was completely untouched by Irma a Line of Protection (God's Protection). Additionally, her electricity was restored within 24 hours after Irma left while those around her still had not gotten their electricity back.

Our SPOKEN WORD has the Power of God in it. Let us all be very mindful of what travels through our lips. Let it be of good report, of kindness, of gentleness and humility, of boldness and power.

Let us continue to speak prayers of love, healing, and protection for all of our brothers and sisters affected by earthquakes and hurricanes in the Caribbean, Texas, Florida, and Mexico.

You are a Brilliant Light of God!
Rev. Kathleen

A Life That Works Without All the Work

This Labor Day month we will take a fresh look at creating a life that works without all the hard labor. When we live from certain spiritual principles and spiritual practices and then leave the rest to the Divine, life really can flow with ease and grace. Each week, we look at this idea from a different angle and learn how to create a life that works without all the work!

Creation Rather Than Control

TRUTH: The Universe is a whole lot smarter than you might think. TRUTH: Creation is much more fun than control. Based on these two TRUTHS, we focus on "A Life That Works Without All the Work."

We apologize for the delay - we'll have the Sunday message from September 17 up next week. In the meantime, get ready for Education Sunday this week! Come and support your fellow congregants as they've been deepening into spiritual awareness. And as an added treat - come and find out what Vergie's been up to!

Closure for My Family

In 1959, Lucinda Elom's father, George Rayfield, and his first wife and their daughter moved into an all-white neighborhood in Collins Park. They were met with protesters and had their house bombed twice - the second time beyond repair. Lucinda said "It really affected a lot of people. He lost his garbage business because of it. And he employed a lot of men in Wilmington. Once his customers found out that he was trying to purchase a home in Collins Park, they canceled their garbage pickup with him."

On September 16, a dedication for the new Collins Park Bombing Historical Marker was held at 10 am on the corner of Route 9 and Cherry Lane, the location of the marker. Lucinda and her family attended.

"I wanted to share this day in history with my community. It was an event that had a major impact on my father's life. This will bring closure to my remaining family."

Prayers Bring Miracles
Linda Cooper

I just had to share this MIRACULOUS news about my nephew, Cole, who just turned 20. I submitted a prayer request for him last Sunday because he had just had his annual MRI to monitor his brain tumor, and he was about to get the results. The news he got is a miracle - the tumor is completely GONE! There is just a blank space where the tumor was. I am crying tears of great gratitude and joy!

Thank you for your love and support for Cole and my family through the years. This tumor has been a dark shadow over us all for 10 years, and now it is no more. Not only that, but prior to finding the tumor, his doctors at A.I. predicted that he would never grow beyond 5'2". In the last year alone he has grown 10" and is now about 6' and seems to still be growing!

I have such deep gratitude for these miracles and blessings for him.  I know my dad is in heaven crying tears of joy with us today!

Volunteer of the Month
Jennifer Lyons
Jennifer Lyons has for several years been in service to our spiritual community. She is always willing to jump in and help where help is needed.

She is or has been a member of the Offertory and Congregant Care teams.  She serves as a substitute teacher for the Children's Fellowship, as a Sunday reader, as a Light-bearer for after-service prayer, and on the Hospitality team. In the last several months, Jenn has reignited the practice of Lunch Bunch - congregants joining together for food and fun after service on the first Sunday of the month. It is a great opportunity for community building. We all know Jenn to have a kind and generous heart as well as a quick wit that keeps us laughing.

As a professional social worker, Jenn has worked for Christiana Care for many years and is now beginning a new venture with a group of mental health care providers. Please join me in celebrating and thanking Jennifer for all she contributes to our spiritual community.

The late Bro. Wayne Teasdale, dear friend of the Association for Global New Thought, wrote in his book The Mystic Heart,

"Humanity stands at a crossroads between horror and hope. In choosing hope, we must seed a new consciousness, a radically fresh approach to life drawing its inspiration from perennial spiritual and moral insights, intuition, and experience. We call this new awareness Interspiritual, implying not the homogenization of religion, but the recovering of the shared mystic heart beating in the center of the world's deepest spiritual traditions.

Spiritual and religious belief systems shape worldviews that, in turn, determine cultural norms. We believe that discord between and among cultures is a symptom of human woundedness catalyzed by failed understanding. When compassionately understood, the diverse wisdom of our spiritual legacies give rise to healing. WE DO have a hand in determining whether cultures evolve or merely change.

Today, we're right in the middle of a planet-wide values shift. Its implications for religion, spirituality, inter-cultural healing, and personal development are profound indeed. At its very heart lie new understandings of peace and nonviolence, social / economic justice, human rights, and ecological sustainability."

Sunday September 17 Candace gave a talk short talk on the Jewish faith as part of the Season for Interfaith/Intercultural Celebration. On October 8 she will discuss the Sufi religion and on October 22 Hinduism.
