Alumnus to Release Electronic and Experimental Album
Colin O'Brien-Lux ('10) makes electronic and experimental music under the name Goosehappen. He completed several new singles in October, and his debut album, out December, will be titled "My Dove is a Whale."

Colin O’Brien-Lux believes art should be democratic, involving the participation of both artist and viewer.

O’Brien-Lux, a theater alumnus, performs as an electronic and experimental music artist under the name Goosehappen, a pseudonym he chose for the fluid way the words sound when spoken aloud. He said his musical work likewise seeks to delineate the relation between sound and feeling.

O’Brien-Lux finished working on a new series of singles in October, along with a music video for his song “Birds Fucking.” His debut album entitled “My Dove is a Whale” is set to release in December. O’Brien-Lux said his background in theater helped him segue into his new role as a professional musician and performance artist, giving him the skills to design experimental shows as well as self-produce and self-promote his music and launch his career, he said.

Applications Now Open for TFT Summer 2017 Teaching Positions
for Former and New Instructors

Dear Instructors interested in employment at the Department of Film, Television and Digital Media Summer Programs,

In an effort to follow general university practice, the Department of Film, Television and Digital Media is instituting a formal application process for summer instruction. That process will include the submission of a CV, syllabus, and statement of pedagogical philosophy. The Department recently unanimously implemented a motion aimed at standardizing the information we convey to students in our syllabi. The three elements we were particularly concerned with are the following:

1) All syllabi convey the same basic and necessary information to students about any given course. We have adopted a format recommended by the Office of Instructional Development

2) All syllabi should outline course materials, requirements, and assignments that are suitable for the grade level of the course being taught.

3) All syllabi should reflect your attention to equity, diversity, and inclusion in your selection of films, readings, and conceptual frameworks as is appropriate to the subject of the course.

Please make sure to pay attention to these principles and the course syllabus template and sample syllabus when creating your syllabus to include with your application. We encourage you to submit your applications promptly for Summer 2017 course offerings.

Please note the deadline for submission of applications is November 17, 2016 at 11:59PM.

Please visit the application website to apply:

Benj Goehner is an alumni of the UCLA School of Theater, Film, & TV (Professional Program TV Writing '15). When he's not performing standup or developing sitcoms based on his life growing up in a German tourist town, studios pay him to write nice things about their movies. Benj says, "Standup is one of the most challenging and rewarding forms of writing. Essentially, you've only got a few short minutes to make a room full of strangers like you and listen to your stories. It's acting, writing, editing, and a job interview rolled into one, but the reward is instantly knowing when a joke is resonating."

Evangeline Monroy is a film industry vet and two time alumni of the UCLA School of Theater, Film, & TV (BA Theater '98, Professional Program TV Writing '15). After getting laid off from a career producing animated & vfx blockbusters for Sony Pictures, she returned to UCLA to pursue her passion of writing for television, while trying to figure out how to be a professional surf bum. Since graduating, she completed the JVS Womentoring Program as a TV Writing mentee, and was also awarded the Upright Citizens Brigade Diversity Scholarship for Improv & Sketch Writing. Evangeline started performing musical comedy after fellow classmate Benj Goehner recommended a standup workshop taught by comedienne Jodi Miller. Evangeline says, "Doing stand up was a dream I was too scared to admit, but I quickly realized it was the missing element in my arsenal of comedy writing tools. Most importantly it's a fun way to force me to write and use my theater & musical muscles at the same time."
