It is a busy fall here at the Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Control Program. Thank you to everyone who attended the Wisconsin Cancer Council Regional Meetings! If you were unable to attend the Regional Meetings, be sure to join our Recap Webinar on December 7, 2016.

 

Materials from the Regional Meetings have been posted to our website, along with how you can become a member of the Wisconsin Cancer Council. In this issue, you will also be able to access materials from the Wisconsin Healthy Hospitals and Clinics Forum, held at the end of September. WI Cancer Council Regional Meetings Successfully Engage New & Existing Partners 
Thank you to those who  attended the   WI Cancer Council   Regional Meetings   in  late October! Individuals  representing organizations from around the state gathered at five WI Cancer Council Regional Meetings to learn about the revised WI Cancer Council member benefits, free membership structure, and how the new benefits can help their organization address cancer. Meetings took place in Milwaukee, Madison, De Pere, La Crosse and Eau Claire. 

Beginning in 2017, WI Cancer Council members will begin receiving exclusive benefits including the CCC  monthly newsletter and an online detailed member directory. Information about joining and renewing membership is included in this month's newsletter.

The WI Cancer Council is excited to share a new way to join and renew membership to the WI Cancer Council. Membership to the WI Cancer Council is FREE and organizations can have an unlimited number of member representatives. Beginning in 2017, WI Cancer Council members will begin receiving exclusive benefits including the CCC monthly newsletter and an online detailed member directory. Don't miss out - JOIN TODAY!
 
To join or renew your membership:
  • Go to www.wicancer.org/join
  •  Click "Join as a Member Representative"
  • Fill out and submit the Commitment Form

WI CCC Plan Priority Webinar Updates
WI CCC Plan Priority Webinar on Priority 3 - Decrease high risk alcohol consumption.
Thank you to those who joined the WI CCC Plan Priority Webinar on October 11, 2016. The webinar featured Priority 3 - Decrease high risk alcohol consumption . Speakers included Julie Sherman of WI Alcohol Policy Project, Dr. Noelle LoConte of the WI Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, and Dr. David H. Upcoming WI CCC Plan Priority Webinar
The next WI CCC Plan Priority Webinar will feature Priority 8 - Increase access to genetic risk assessments and counseling . This webinar will take place on December 13, 2016 from 3-4PM. Jennifer Geurts, MS, CGC, from the Medical College of Wisconsin will present an overview of genetic risk along with information on genetic counseling and cancer.

Throughout 2016, the WI CCC Program is offering a webinar series for partners and WI Cancer Council members. The webinars offer participants the opportunity to learn more about priorities within the WI CCC Plan 2015-2020 . Materials from the Healthy Hospitals & Clinics Forum Now Posted
Thank you to those who joined the WI Healthy Hospitals and Clinics Forum on September 30, 2016. Over 160 people gathered in Madison to learn, network, and share ideas about creating healthier environments in Wisconsin hospitals and clinics. Attendees represented systems from around the state and had the opportunity to choose from 16 breakout sessions in four tracks. All of the materials from the day can be found on the WI Healthy Hospitals and Clinics Forum Page , or by visiting wicancer.org/healthyhospitals . 'Cancer Clear and Simple' - Now Available in Spanish
  The Cancer Health Disparities Initiative (CHDI)  has released the Spanish version of Cancer Clear & Simple, in order to better serve the Latino population of the UW Carbone Cancer Center's service area. The materials include cancer basics curriculum, prevention and screening information, and related materials. In a partnership with UW-Extension, the materials are being distributed statewide. Roundtable Webinar on Familial Risk and CRC Screening 
Registration is open for the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable Webinar Familial Risk and Colorectal Cancer Screening. The purpose of the webinar is to review the recently published NCCRT commissioned article,  Understanding the contribution of family history to colorectal cancer risk and its clinical implications: A state-of-the-science review, that explores what we know, don't know and how we are doing in terms of screening those with a family history of colorectal cancer. The webinar will be held on Thursday, December 8 th at 12:00CT. Registration is required, click  HERE to reserve your place. Spots are limited.

November Membership Spotlight
Mari Freiberg, MPH, is the CEO and Executive Director of Scenic Bluffs Community 
Health Centers in Cashton, Wisconsin. 

Scenic Bluffs is a Community Health Center for rural communities. Scenic Bluffs 
Community Health Center's work in cancer control is focused in both dental and medical departments. Regular health screenings, primary care treatment, and health education opportunities are offered. Through the Wisconsin Cancer Council, Scenic Bluffs Community Health Centers discovered research on the low rates of mammography among rural women. This reaffirmed the organization's interest in bringing cancer support services and screenings to their own community. Scenic Bluffs Community Health Centers now works with Gundersen to offer mobile mammography 4 times a year, bringing affordable healthcare close to home.

ICYMI: In Case You Missed It
CDC Recommends Only Two HPV Shots for Younger Adolescents
In a recent release, the CDC recommended that 11 to 12 year olds receive two doses of the HPV vaccine, as opposed to the previously recommended three dose series. Older children, teens, and young adults, will continue to receive the three dose series to protect against cancers caused by human papillomavirus infections.
