Here's What's Happening at PCCS
PCCS Town Hall
The PSO and PCCS Administration are co-hosting a Town Hall event, open to everyone in the community, on Wednesday, October 4th from 7-8pm in the Gaylord Nelson Gym. There will be a brief presentation and then the Town Hall will open up for a Q & A from members of the audience. The PSO will be accepting questions in advance for those who would like to have the PSO ask your question for you. To RSVP, contact Lisa Profenna, PSO VP

MPAC Event
This fall the Multicultural Parent Advisory Council would like to take families on a tour of the world. The evening will explore several celebrations that remind us to be thankful through games, crafts, and literacy and then top it off with a "taste of the world" potluck dinner. Be sure to get your passport at the door because we'll be traveling on November 7th from 6 to 8:30pm in the Gym! All students, families & staff are welcome . Please RSVP HERE to sign up .

PBIS--Be Safe During Arrival
Be Safe During Arrival.  By walking to buildings, everyone is able to get where they need to go in a calm and cautious manner.  By walking bikes, you can be extra careful of where you are going and where others may be standing.  By being aware of your surroundings, everyone can make sure that the area is safe from any dangers.
It is all of our jobs to make sure that our community remains safe while arriving at school.  You all do your jobs by walking (not running) and keeping your hands and legs to yourselves.  You also help by making sure that you are riding your bike in a safe way.  If someone/something makes you uncomfortable - for any reason, it is your responsibility to tell an adult as soon as possible.
Academic Excellence
Fall is officially here, and with it comes many opportunities for learning at Prairie Crossing Charter School.  Wearing environmental goggles, our teachers create outstanding academic lessons while using our sustainable school yard and extended outdoor classrooms as the catalyst to learning and achieving high expectations for environmental and academic standards.

How do we at PCCS measure our students' success? Each year, we gather data and information to determine our successes and build for the future. Our staff looks at high school class placements, standardized and local test scores, and anecdotal reflections from the staff and community.  This year we are excited about the high levels of Honors and AP placements with our graduates, increased scores in PARCC and NWEA as a school, and having reached the Platinum level of PBIS in only our 4th year of using this program.

Another way we promote and achieve academic excellence is by promoting high levels of attendance. It is easy to see the connection between high academic success and consistent attendance in school. Last week we celebrated Attendance Week at PCCS by scoring nearly 98% attendance! This is a whole percentage point greater than last year!!!  Although attendance week is over, I would like to encourage all our families to maintain this consistent attendance record. How can you help? Schedule appointments on weekends or after school. Plan vacations for school breaks. Promote a healthy lifestyle including adequate sleep and nutrition.  I am very proud of our students, staff, and families for this accomplishment and proudly wear my Bears Jersey in recognition of this achievement. Go Bears! Go Hawks!

PSO Sponsors a PCCS Town Hall Meeting: Are you new to PCCS, or are wondering about how our charter school works? We hope many of you, whether it's your first year or you've been here for many years, will take the opportunity to learn about our school. Come to a Town Hall Meeting and learn more. See above for more details.

The Hunt Club Aquatic Center "Fun"Raiser: This event lived up to its name! It was indeed a fun event, with close to 100 people joining in. In fact, it was the most successful fundraiser the Aquatic Center had the entire summer. Wow! Go PCCS! Thank you to all who came out to swim and eat popsicles with us. Also, we raised $276 for our PSO! Thank you so much.

PSO Donation: With a portion of the funds raised, we are excited to announce that we purchased an "Art Supplies Zero Waste Box" for our art teacher, Mr. Thomas. This box will be used to recycle art items that normally would be thrown in the trash, like used paint pots, broken or old paint brushes, paint tubes, tape dispensers, and much more. When the box is filled up, it is shipped to a facility that can recycle those items. We feel like this donation aligns well with our school values, and it was made possible by your participation in our Aquatic Night! Thank you again to all who participated.

Spirit Wear: Spirit Wear arrived last week, just in time for Spirit Day! Everyone who ordered should have received theirs. We will have another opportunity to order new items after the new year. If you need a t-shirt now, the PSO does have a limited inventory available for purchase.

Textile Drive: THANK YOU so much to our volunteers and for all the wonderful donations. We hope it will be one of the most successful textile drives yet, and we will keep you updated with our end result!

Pizza Friday: Order forms are due by  September 27, and unfortunately no late orders can be added. The PSO is offering a gluten-free option as well. Gluten-Free Order Form and the Traditional Pizza Order Form. Sign up now!

PCCS Volunteer Day of Service: Mark your calendars for  September 30th! All families are welcome to come out to help improve and beautify our school. We have multiple opportunities, including painting a map of the United States on our playground, mulching, cleaning up the planting beds for fall, and working on highway cleanup for Adopt-A-Highway.
