GARMIN announced Piper Aircraft has selected the G1000 all-glass, integrated flight deck for its new Archer and Seminole models, introduced at Piper Aircraft's 75th anniversary celebration and fly-in in Vero Beach, Fla.
L-3 AVIATION PRODUCTS announced Cessna has selected its GH-3900 electronic standby instrument system and the FA2100 cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder system for the Citation Longitude and Latitude business jets.
MID-CONTINENT INSTRUMENTS AND AVIONICS introduced an advanced, 2-by 5-inch standby display. The MD302 standby attitude module is an entirely self-contained, solid-state instrument that provides attitude, altitude, airspeed and slip information to the pilot during normal operation or in the case of primary instrument failure.
WEST STAR AVIATION announced the availability of the enhanced flight vision system known as Hud Vision Access for the Challenger 604 and Challenger 605 aircraft. Certification of the system is expected January 2013.

The Alliance for Aviation Across America launched a wide-scale economic impact survey to outline the benefit of general aviation on businesses, local economies and communities around the nation. AEA Wired will highlight a different state each issue:

U.S. General Aviation Caucus Update
General Aviation Caucuses were formed in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate in 2009, to inform members and staff about the importance of GA to the nation's economy and transportation system. AEA Submits Comments on FAA's Part 145 Rewrite
The Aircraft Electronics Association recently objected to the Federal Aviation Administration's notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) for Part 145 repair stations in comments submitted to the FAA by the Nov. 19 deadline.

On May 21, the FAA proposed a significant rewrite of the repair station regulations. The proposal called for wholesale changes to the avionics industry with damaging and costly repercussions. After the NPRM was issued last spring, the AEA immediately developed a written comparative analysis of the proposed rule and conducted three informational webinars designed to educate AEA member businesses on the potential changes coming to their Part 145 operations. The webinars also helped members prepare and submit comments. More...The U.S. House of Representatives will consider legislation on Bill SA2060 during this year's lame-duck session of Congress, which is an amendment to S.1789 that would reform the United States Postal Service due to its serious financial situation. A portion of this proposed bill includes added language regarding limiting the travel of federal agencies. If approved, this amendment would restrict all federal agencies, including the Federal Aviation Administration, to attending only one conference during each fiscal year. The American Society of Association Executives recently delivered a letter to congressional leaders expressing concerns with the negative impact of SA2060. OSHA Concerns
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been supporting clean-up efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. AEA members who are affected, and who may still be in clean-up mode, should pay heed to the OSHA guidance about protecting employees from hazards.
With the passage of time, it is easy to forget about the hazards that remain in the wake of the storm. It is particularly important to remember that new hazards can also arise, like contamination hazards. Businesses should be cognizant of these hazards and should take steps to protect employees from the hazards.
