On Sat., Nov. 5, legendary pilot and business aviation executive CLAY LACY returned to his hometown to attend this year's Kansas Aviation Museum Gala, where he was inducted into the Kansas Aviation Hall of Fame for his extraordinary achievements in aviation.
J.A. AIR CENTER welcomed DAVID UFEN as its director of avionics. Ufen will be responsible for the management of avionics sales, installation and program development.
JEPPESEN introduced a new Web-based training program featuring Garmin G1000 avionics systems. The online program features three G1000 training courses, including visual flight rules procedures, instrument flight rules procedures and VFR/IRF procedures designed to simplifly training for current and student pilots.

The Alliance for Aviation Across America recently launched a wide-scale economic impact survey to outline the benefit of general aviation on businesses, local economies and communities around the nation. AEA Wired will highlight a different state each issue:

Shipments And Billings Slow Their Decline Through The First Nine Months Of 2011
The General Aviation Manufacturers Association reported that worldwide deliveries of general aviation airplanes in the first nine months of 2011 dropped 9.8 percent as compared to the same period last year, to a total of 1,227 units. Industry billings fell 10.2 percent, from $13.5 billion to $12.1 billion. More...
Coalition to Save Our GPS Urges FCC to Prohibit LightSquared from Using Upper MSS Band
In a filing with the Federal Communications Commission on Nov. 8, the Coalition to Save Our GPS called on the Commission to "promptly rule" that LightSquared can never use the upper mobile satellite spectrum band for high powered terrestrial operations. Such use of the upper band "should be taken off the table now," the filing said. The Aircraft Electronics Association is a member of the Coalition to Save Our GPS and has been actively involved in opposing LightSquared's proposals.
The filing said that the terms of the FCC International Bureau's decision to grant a conditional waiver for LightSquared to operate in the upper and lower 10MHz MSS bands specified that LightSquared prove its planned operations would not cause interference with GPS and that "the FCC should make clear now that the condition imposed in the January 2011 Waiver Order has not been satisfied and that the waiver is revoked with respect to the upper MSS band." First Nationwide Test of the Emergency Alert System Today, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. EST
As part of their ongoing efforts to keep our country and communities safe during emergencies, the Federal Communications Commission and Federal Emergency Management Agency will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System today, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. EST. The national EAS is an alert and warning system that can be activated by the president if needed, to provide information to the American public during emergencies.
