Multicultrual Show now on display at
Gallery@Courtyard through October 23
The exhibit primarily features the work of Plano Art Association members in addition to other artists from the North Texas area.The theme of the show is "Global Reflections. Art, the Universal Language."

The art exhibit coincides with the 13th annual Plano In
ternational Festival on October 14 in downtown Plano.
The sixty-plus works are a global reflection of the vision of this group of very talented artists. PAA artists are pleased to showcase their art on this exciting occasion at this international confluence in Plano.
Exhibit hours are Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to
4:00 p.m. at The
Gallery @ Courtyard.

PAA'S DOWNTOWN
MURAL PROJECT UPDATE
Two down and one to go!
The second of the three murals is now complete. It can be seen on the side of Vickery Park Restaurant across from the DART station on 15th Place in Downtown Plano. Artist Wes Hardin, from Alabama, painted the huge mural in record time thanks to no rain days and cool weather.

The third mural will be installed later this year on this wall located
at Avenue K and 15th Street.

Next up is the three-dimensional mural-type installation being fabricated to be located at 15th Street and Avenue K in the heart of Downtown. This exciting interactive "Soundwave" design will be completed and installed by the end of the year. It will have an amazing audio interactive component so that the mural actual delivers sounds from Plano's heritage.

Participate in Art Share at the next PAA meeting
Bring a couple of pieces of your work by 6:30 to set up to show to your fellow artists. After the business meeting and during a break before the guest presentation, all those attending are requested to make a point of engaging with each artist who is exhibiting for the evening.
All are asked to share insights and a constructive critique of each piece of artwork. This is one of the benefits members derive from membership, the opportunity to get feedback from fellow artists.
And, there are some other major opportunities from sharing your art: ballots will be passed around and the work of one artist will be selected as "PAA Artist of the Month." Rewards will include a gift certificate from Asel Art Supply, plus the artwork will be exhibited at PAA headquarters at Rail Station Studios and Gallery for an entire month. Another bonus will be to have your art piece be the first piece viewed on the opening of our virtual gallery on our new website for the month.
We are also considering dedicating at least one up-coming members' meeting to a professional critique session for artists who want their work critiqued. More details to follow.

QUESTION: WOULD YOU LIKE YOUR STUDIO
TO BE INCLUDED IN A STUDIO TOUR IN NOVEMBER?
For 13 years certain members of the Plano and surrounding art community have hosted a tour of their studios each November. This year, PAA has been offered the opportunity to take on this highly successful event and open it up to our members.
It is a two-day event, scheduled for November 3 and 4, just in time for holiday gift-giving purchases of art. Participation would mean opening your studio to the tour of art patrons who love to see artists' studios, their work environment and their art work close up. It is a great opportunity to sell some of your work. It will be promoted in local media and a website will present your work and help guide people to your studio.
Your studio needs to be located in Plano or nearby. A small fee will be required to participate.
Please let us know promptly if you are interested in participating.

PAA ARTIST OF THE MONTH
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Ken Wheatly's photographs, displayed at the August PAA Members' Meeting, were favored by those in attendance to qualify him as Artist of the Month. Ken is an award-winning photographer and a member of PAA Board of Directors.
How do you describe the art that you prefer to create?
I describe my style as being off the beaten path of mainstream photography. I like to create images that encourage the viewer to not only see what is obvious to the eye but prompt the mind to ask
"how did he do that", "what is that?"
What drives you to create this kind of art?
The driving force for me is doing things in a different way. I feel that there is always more to an image that meets the eye.
How long have you been painting your current style?
I have moved to an ABSTRACT style within the last year. I have been going through my image library and looking for the "hidden images" in photographs I have taken over the years.
What famous noted historical artist do you most admire?
Dorothea Lange. I admire her great ability to show the viewer the images of the people living in the depression era.
What noted living artist do you most admire?
Annie Leibovitz; one of my favorite quotes by her is "When I say I want to photograph someone, what it really means is that I'd like to know them. Anyone I know, I photograph"
What goal you are pursuing in your art?
To become more skilled at the craft of photography, to continue finding different ways to use photography as a way to express myself.
How do you think Plano Art Association benefits artists and the Plano community?
There is no doubt that the Plano Art Association benefits not only the artist community; it benefits the city of Plano, particularly the Downtown Arts District.

Progress is a good thing.
We have had a successful staging of another impressive art exhibit featuring primarily PAA members. Hope all get a chance to attend the reception and see the show at Gallery@Courtyard. (See details above). Great progress.

making progress on the new PAA website. Ma
ny of you have provided images of your work to be featured on our PAA "virtual
gallery." If you haven't sent a favorite artwork image, please do so asap.

One very specific assist we need is someone to help with PAA social media posting. If you are social media-wise and have an hour or two a week you could devote to this, it would be a terrific benefit to the organization.
