Welcome Fall

As we make the gradual foray into Fall and watch the colors of the market shift to shades of orange, brown and burgundy we wanted to take a moment to give thanks for the gifts of this past summer. We enjoyed some gorgeous, unseasonably cool Saturdays, a bounty of fresh food, and the soulful sounds of local musicians. We watched kids and families and couples, old and young experience their beautiful community. Yet none of this could have happened without a group of  amazingly positive, dedicated, tireless group of people who show up week after week (no matter the weather) to unload a trailer, lug chairs and tables, set up tents and ready the market for another day. They staff our information tent, sell merchandise, and operate our EBT terminal. And then they tear it all down at the end of the day and pack it away until next week... all the while with smiles on their faces. So if you see somebody in the circle sporting a navy blue volunteer tee shirt , take a moment to say thank you. Because we really couldn't do what we do without them.

THANK YOU EASTON FARMERS' MARKET VOLUNTEERS

Primordia
Mushrooms
It's Paw Paw Time!

If you're lucky America's best kept secret fruit may be growing in your own neighborhood, but then again you may have to engage in some serious foraging like our friends at Primordia did this week. So what IS a Paw Paw you ask?
Here's what Serious Eats has to saw about Paw Paws:

Pawpaw trees, the largest edible fruit trees native to North America, produce greenish-blackish fruit, usually three to six inches long. The flesh is pale to bright yellow and contains a network of glossy, dark brown seeds. A pawpaw's flavor is sunny, electric, and downright tropical: a riot of mango-banana-citrus that's incongruous with its temperate, deciduous forest origins. They also have a subtle kick of a yeasty, floral aftertaste a bit like unfiltered wheat beer. "The flavor of pawpaws is forceful and distinct," writes culinary historian Mark F. Sohn diplomatically in his encyclopedic book, Appalachian Home Cooking.
