Another Successful Member Orientation is in the Books!
We had a great turnout this morning at Eggspectation in Ellicott City for our Member Orientation! Chamber President & CEO Leonardo McClarty explained the many benefits of Chamber membership to all the new members and those same new members got the chance to talk one-on-one with Chamber staff, Board of Directors members and Chamber ambassadors. We're looking forward to another great Member Orientation on November 21st.

Chamber Offers Support for the Economic Opportunity Task Force Resolution
Howard County Chamber President Leonardo McClarty has penned a letter to Howard County Council Chair Jon Weinstein asking the Council for a favorable vote on
CR119-2017, legislation introduced to establish an Economic Opportunity and Prosperity Task Force. The task force, which would be made up of 13 members and co-chaired by Chamber President McClarty, would examine ways to improve workforce support, economic development, education, housing and transportation in Howard County.

Chamber President Lays Out Position on TIF Repeal Legislation
Recent developments in downtown Columbia have generated a lot of excitement in the business community, but the Chamber feels that that momentum would be slowed by the repeal of the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) plan sought by Council Members Calvin Ball and Jen Terrasa, who have introduced legislation seeking a repeal. The Chamber has sent a letter to Howard County Council Chair Jon Weinstein explaining our position and asking that
Council Bill 74-2017 receive an unfavorable vote from the County Council.

HCC & Giant Food Need Your Help to Fill the Student Food Pantry This Saturday
Chamber members Howard Community College (HCC) and Giant Food are teaming up to collect food and personal care items for HCC's food pantry. HCC students and staff will be passing out shopping lists to customers at seven local Giant Food locations and asking for donations of the items on those lists.

County Executive Kittleman Announces Launch of Early Childhood Education Tool
Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman just announced the launch of a new free online school preparation program called Ready Rosie here in Howard County. The roll-out of Ready Rosie is the second project under Achieve 24/7, an initiative started by the County Executive.

AT&T Plan for First Responder Network Approved by Governor Hogan
Congratulations to Chamber member AT&T whose plan along with FirstNet to deliver a wireless broadband network to Maryland public safety community has been accepted by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan.

The Howard County Arts Council is still looking for nominations. The Council is asking for nominations of individuals and businesses that have made a significant contribution to the arts in Howard County for their 2017 Howie Awards.
