Mission Statement
United Way Fox Cities improves lives by bringing diverse people together to build a stronger, more caring community for everyone.
New Born Learning Trails Coming to Fox Cities
Because of the importance of getting our children off to a good start in life, making sure that children enter Kindergarten developmentally on track is a priority for United Way. United Way Fox Cities' Born Learning Trails provide free opportunities for parents, grandparents and caregivers to boost young children's literacy and language skills. Currently, there are two Born Learning Trails in the Fox Cities at Pierce Park (Appleton) and Plamann Park Children's Farm (Appleton). Three additional trails will be completed in fall 2015 at Fritse Park (Town of Menasha), Jefferson Park (Menasha) and Smith Park (Menasha).

The trails feature interactive stations with tips and tools to engage children in play-based learning activities. By playing and exploring together on the Born Learning Trails, you can help your child get ready for success in school and in life. Visit a trail today!

If your company would like to sponsor a new Born Learning Trail in the Fox Cities, or if you are interested in volunteering to help install a Born Learning Trail, please email Suzanne Brault Pagel at United Way Fox Cities.

Dollars for Diapers Campaign a Success

This spring, the community came together to support the Fox Cities Diaper Bank, an initiative of United Way Fox Cities, through the Post-Crescent's "Dollars for Diapers" Do It! Challenge. The challenge, presented by Kimberly-Clark Cares and Huggies, ran Mother's Day through Father's Day and reached its $60,000 goal. Because of this year's campaign, the Diaper Bank will be stocked with nearly 250,000 diapers, helping an average of 900 children per month.

In addition, during the Dollars for Diapers Campaign, nine sites collected nearly 6,000 diapers, 23 containers of wipes, and other assorted items such as bottles, formula and baby lotion. A group of ThedaCare's United Way Fox Cities Emerging Leaders and friends volunteered to sort, repackage and box the diapers for distribution (pictured above).

Special thanks to all of the community members who donated and community partners: J. J. Keller Foundation, United Way Fox Cities, Thrivent Financial, Kimberly-Clark Cares and U.S. Venture, who each matched donations of $5,000. Together, Fox Communities, Prospera, Evergreen, Capital, Badger Globe, Thrivent Federal, Unison and St. Elizabeth Employees credit unions matched $10,000. The Post-Crescent Community Fund gave $5,000 at the end of the campaign to get us to our goal. Thank you!

Camp Hope Creates Lasting Memories
Each year for the past 14 years, YMCA of the Fox Cities' Camp Hope has welcomed more than 40 children between the ages of 6 and 15 who have cognitive or physical disabilities. The two-week day camp, sponsored in part by United Way Fox Cities, offers campers activities including swimming, sports, music, craft projects, group games and guest speakers. Campers are encouraged to get lots of exercise and reach their highest potential.

This summer, staff from United Way Fox Cities had the chance to hear first-hand about the enriching experiences Camp Hope offers. During the visit, campers were constructing memory books with photos from their time at camp and were enthusiastic about sharing their stories. Your gift to United Way Fox Cities makes Camp Hope possible. Thank you!

Thrive Career Academy Graduates First Class

In 2014, United Way awarded a total of $540,000 in grants to five local projects. One of the grants went to Valley Packaging Industries' Thrive Career Academy to assist clients with disabilities in obtaining employment. The program is held three days a week for three months and includes soft skills training and internships, followed by placement in a competitive job.

On July 24, 2015, at a ceremony at UW Fox Valley, the first seven graduates celebrated their accomplishments, along with proud families and supporters of the program. Because of your investment in United Way Fox Cities, these graduates have a bright future!

Enrollment for the second Thrive Career Academy class has started.
For more information about the program, contact Valley Packaging Industries at 920-749-5859.
