Comprehensive plans for Seattle, King County and Lakewood recommended for certification

The growth board recommended certification of the 2016 comprehensive plan updates for Seattle and King County. Board members also recommended full certification for the City of Lakewood's plan, based on a supplemental report that responds to the conditions for regional certification.

The board found that the three plans are consistent with regional policies and conform to the Growth Management Act requirements for transportation planning.

Planning for 2050

The board discussed early work to prepare for VISION 2050.  VISION 2050 will extend growth projections from 2040 to 2050, incorporate changes since the adoption of VISION 2040 in 2008, and set the groundwork for the next cycle of local plan updates. A draft scope for VISION 2050 is expected to be released for public comment in early 2018. VISION 2050 is expected to be completed with adoption by the region's General Assembly in the spring of 2020.

Board makes progress on Regional Centers Framework

The growth board took another swing at the development of a new centers framework, with the goal of finalizing a draft for public comment in October.  The board added a social equity component to the framework to better ensure more inclusive and affordable centers.  Based on direction from board members, staff will be refining proposals to include major military installations, a new path for manufacturing and industrial centers, and increased expectations for growth in the region's largest centers. The new framework is being readied to inform VISION 2050.
