Make It, Take It, Give It!

Weekends November 25th - December 18th, and December 23rd and 30th

Make It, Take It, Give It offers so many ways to celebrate the holidays! With the guidance of expert artisans (and using their equipment), you can create a handmade gift worthy of becoming a family heirloom, or you can "gift" a workshop to a special person and let them enjoy expressing their creativity. Better yet, come together and celebrate the joy of making something with your own hands and imaginations.

Whether your interest is painting, glass blowing, or forging, the Make It, Take It, Give It has something for you. Select from workshops that last two hours to twelve hours to pursue your interest in fiber arts, blacksmithing, jewelry, woodworking, stained glass or professional learning for educators. You can even make your very own ornaments or multimedia Santa! Many classes are Family Friendly, so bring your kids or grandkids, enroll them in the children's activities or join them and create together.

The course catalog is up now, so don't wait!

Use #MTGBerea to share your experience online.

This is a great tradition for family and friends

Saturday Tours and Demonstrations

November 5th

-Steve Scherer, of Edmonton, will demonstrate his unique glass ornaments from 10:30am to 3:30pm at the Center.

Using an oxygen-gas torch and his own hand-colored borosilicate glass, Scherer creates Christmas ornaments by encasing his handmade animals and birds with clear glass. A sphere is blown from a piece of glass tubing and the finished glass animal is inserted and attached. The opening is then gathered together and sealed with a loop for hanging.

November 12th

-Marlene Dennis, of Louisville, will demonstrate her stained glass ornaments from 10:30am to 3:30pm at the Center.

Marlene states that once she started learning to do stained glass, she was hooked. Having always loved glass, crystals and natural stones, she found that with stained glass the possibilities were endless.

-The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea will offer visitors free guided tours through the center's gallery exhibit, "Have a Seat: Chairs by Kentucky Artisans" and the lobby exhibits, "Kentucky Clay: A Continuing Tradition" and "Reveal: Monica Pipia."

These free, guided exhibit tours will be led by Kentucky Artisan Center staff who will talk about the exhibits, the artists and individual works. Staff will answer questions about the techniques and various processes used and the objects featured. Tours will be given at 11am and again at 2pm.

November 19th

-Three members of the Berea Welcome Center Carvers will demonstrate a variety of woodcarving styles and techniques from 10:30am to 3:30pm at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.

Members of the Berea Welcome Center Carvers live in many communities in central Kentucky, and their activities include carving classes, carving demonstrations at schools, monthly Kentucky Artisan Center demonstrations and special events.

November 26th

-Ann Klem, of Fisherville, will create Lampworked glass beads with a torch from 10:30am to 3:30pm at the center.

Klem draws most of her inspiration from her love of strong color and from images in her environment where she looks for patterns in nature. Working with the hot glass at an oxygen-propane torch, she gathers colored and clear glass onto her mandrel to layer and shape the beads she needs to complete an idea for a piece of finished jewelry.

- Also on Saturday, Nov. 26, the musical group Raison D'Etre will perform holiday music from 11am. to 2pm. at the Center. Recordings by this trio are regularly available at the Kentucky Artisan Center and their close harmonies and spirited renditions of holiday music set the tone for holiday shopping.
