Poly Air Force JRTC Wins 2017 CEO's Cup for Best Annual JROTC Unit in Baltimore City
On September 26, 2017 Poly's Air Force JROTC unit was named the 2017 Best Annual JROTC in Baltimore City. Dr Sonja Santelises, CEO, presented the trophy to a group of Poly cadets during the district's school board commissioners meeting. The CEO's Cup was created to provide all Baltimore City Public Schools JROTC cadets the opportunity to participate in city-wide activities and competitions and promote esprit de corps, teamwork and self-confidence among JROTC cadets. Cadets participated in seven events throughout the 2016-2017 school year including a 5K Run, Academic and Leadership Bowl, Raider's Challenge, Drill Competition, and Community Service Project. Points were awarded based on how well the JROTC units did in each event. From the first event to the last, Poly cadets were committed to winning the CEO's Cup. They took 1st place in 12 individual/team categories, including 1st place overall in the Raider's Challenge and Drill Competition. Cadets also showed their Poly Pride by helping to collect and assemble 800 care packages for local military and their families! While the CEO's Cup will be proudly displayed in the JROTC showcase for the next year, cadets know they need to work hard if they want to keep the traveling trophy at Poly. When asked about a repeat in 2018, the Corps Commander, Cadet Major Ronnie Huggins, stated confidently that the cadets are ready for the challenge, recalling Aristotle's famous words, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."

CollegeBound Scholar of the Year 2016 Makes Poly Proud
This summer, I'Shea Boyd '16, currently studying at University of Maryland, College Park, interned for the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) in the Protection and Controls Department.
I'Shea Boyd '16
She writes: "I absolutely loved my time at BGE. Everyone in the company was down to earth, welcoming, and willing to share their knowledge. The best parts about interning were the people I met, and how included I felt in my department. I had the opportunity to further develop my communication and technical skills, through engaging with my coworkers, presenting at company meetings, and working on my assigned project. Both my manager and mentor were invested in making this internship worthwhile for me. My mentor always kept me challenged by assigning me relevant work and alowing me to work on an actual company project. The most valuable lesson that I learned during my internship is the importance of having confidence in my work. No one will be confident in my work if I am not. Confidence in my work is needed when I am first assigned a task or requesting a task. Confidence is also needed as I work to complete an assignment. I have to believe in my ability to complete any assignment or find the resources needed to do so. Lastly, confidence is needed when I report the outcome of my work."
