Arthur Jafa: Love is The Message, The Message is Death Opening Reception
The Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) presents acclaimed artist, filmmaker and cinematographer Arthur Jafa's Love is The Message, The Message is Death. Please join us for the opening reception at an offsite gallery located at 1086 Bellevue Street, Detroit, MI 48207. An artist reception will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 7 to 9pm. Free and open to the public. The exhibition will be open Fridays from 1-7p, Saturdays from 12-5, or by appointment. To schedule an appointment, call MOCAD.

DLECTRICITY is a nighttime outdoor festival of art + light that showcases the work of emerging and established artists, architects and industrial designers in the Cultural Corridor of Midtown Detroit. Thirty-six international, national and local artists have been commissioned to illuminate the Woodward corridor, from the Detroit Institute of Arts down to the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit - MOCAD with cutting edge installations of light, video, performance, interactive engineering and other unexpected works of art. DLECTRICITY returns this fall on September 22-23, 2017.

JASON YATES + FRIENDS : HOMEMADE ICE CREAM
Wasserman Projects is pleased to present 3 fall openings. For "Homemade Ice Cream" Detroit born, Los Angeles-based artist Jason Yates has created a fully outfitted, larger than life size dollhouse and domestic vignettes constructed inside the gallery inspired by his childhood in Detroit. Maryland born, Detroit-based Martha Mysko will be presenting Selective Memory, a site-specific installation of found objects, materials, and digital media into thickly layered and color-saturated environments. Friends of Friends: Jonathan Baker, Alexander Buzzalini, John Charnota, Leslie Rogers, Victoria Shaheen, all Detroit-based artists who worked in collaboration with Jason Yates to produce "Homemade Ice Cream" will present there own works.

Jesse Malmed - Untitled (Just Kidding): Film Screening
Jesse Malmed presents a suite of videos and performances, including new works made specifically for tonight. Malmed's moving image works channel and channel surf the intersects of conceptual comedy, dizzying illogics, the poetic plu-future and sustainable sourcing, animating the cinema space with live gestures. Tonight's sights include: a sitcommune, an actorless play, the permeability of the screen and new letters.

Red Bull House of Art is pleased to present New Wave, a group exhibition organized by Ben Venom, featuring nine artists who are redefining how we view contemporary craft. Picking up the loose threads of the handmade in our tech dominated era, these artists are pushing the boundaries of their chosen medium. Examining themes of ritual, sexuality, and power, the work in this exhibition aims to shatter the myth of traditional craft-based work as a solely domestic art.

This one-day conference highlights programs and research that use the arts to improve patient outcomes.This year's symposium will focus on "building your toolkit" to implement arts programs and research in a healthcare setting. Topics include: best practices, funding, community partnerships, and implementation. The symposium will also include plenary sessions by Jefferson Frazier of the National Organization of Arts and Health, Beth Bienvenue of the National Endowment for the Arts, and DIA Director Salvador Salort-Pons.

Murals in the Market Print Exhibition Opening
Join us as 1xRUN showcases new fine art prints from some of this year's participating artists. Take home a signed and numbered limited edition print from your favorite muralist as we welcome the artists to Detroit. This September 21st-28th, Murals In The Market will make a triumphant return to Detroit's Historic Eastern Market as more than 50 local and international artists will be painting live throughout the district over the course of 10 days in the thrid year of the city's only international mural festival.

Dr. Sharon Egretta Sutton, FAIA discusses her most recent book, When Ivory Towers were Black: A Story about Race in America's Cities and Universities. She shares how she and an unparalleled cohort of ethnic minority students got a free Ivy League education during the late 1960s and early1970s, when the Black Power Movement was at its zenith.
