HPV Immunization Project
Funded for Year 4

AHEC West received word last week that NAO's continuation application for the HPV Immunization Project has been approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for funding into Year 4, which begins September 30, 2017.

Nationwide efforts for continuing education, information dissemination and partnership development continue to gain momentum, with the ultimate goal of increased HPV vaccination uptake for 11 & 12 year old girls and boys for cancer prevention.

Joy Taylor, Project Specialist for Continuing Education, reports that Year 3 was very successful in meeting objectives, resulting in greater participation numbers, new and/or expanded local and state-wide collaborations and consistent positive evaluation feedback. Other project accomplishments include receiving approval to provide continuing education credits for dental professionals, developing Special Project Funding Opportunities for innovative and creative HPV programming, facilitating greater use of social media sites and messaging, completing expanded environmental scanning for each state with new partnership priorities identified, and supporting numerous requests for customized training presentations across the country.

"Year 4 will be exciting," Joy explains. "Not only will State Entities reap the rewards of their work from the first three years of the project, but we will now also highlight how their HPV Project successes are applicable and relevant to all of their other AHEC work across the board."
