Calder: Monumental Tour
Thru Sept 24 | 9:30 am - 10:30 am | Denver Botanical Gardens | Gen. Adm.
American artist Alexander Calder (1898-1976) is considered one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century and is known for his bold energetic sculptures.
Calder: Monumental features these iconic works of bolted steel plate-which rise in sweeping curves, or puncture space with geometric lines-revealing the artist's exploration of forms, volumes, and voids. Using shapes that resonate with the natural world, Calder's large lively abstractions interact with the surrounding landscape.
Learn more about the sculptures with a docent guide during a one-hour tour of the exhibition.

Thru Oct 1 | 10 am - 6 pm | Denver Art Museum | Gen. Adm.
Pre-Columbian art is full of human and supernatural figures in dramatic poses. Some clearly portray dance, while others appear to represent singing, oratory, drama, and ritual. This installation of 29 objects presents a cross-cultural selection of works from the Denver Art Museum's extensive collection.

Thru Nov 12 | 10 am - 6 pm | Arvada Center of the Arts and Humanities
War never seems to go out of business; while we fret over the threat of increased conflicts in North Korea and Afghanistan, images of earlier conflicts stick with us, whether presented in such great paintings as Goya's "The Third of May" and Picasso's "Guernica" or in the powerful photography of Robert Capa, Margaret Bourke-White, Sebastião Salgado and countless others. Two timely new exhibits - a large group show, Art and Conflict, with views of war by Colorado artists, and a vintage propaganda/poster show, The Great War: Visions of a World Conflict.
Thru Dec 31 | 9 am - 5 pm | Buffalo Bill Museum & Grave | Gen. Adm.
As Cody lay dying at his sister's home in Denver, he made one final request, "Bury me on top of Mount Lookout." This exhibit, honoring the centennial of Cody's passing, will look more deeply into the details leading up to, and following, this momentous yet controversial decision.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Sept 26
There was a time when employment law was exclusively the concern of the company attorney. Sure, there were certain things managers were told not to do - like ask questions about an applicant's family responsibilities during an interview or have staff handle personal errands on company time - but beyond these and a few other "no-nos," employment law was pretty much considered common sense. One quick look at recent, costly court cases and you'll realize those days are gone for good.
Today, employment laws are far-reaching, and managers - along with the organizations they work for - can't afford the luxury of ignorance. You must be up to date on the law, as well as all its fuzzy interpretations, and know precisely how those laws apply to situations within your organization. Otherwise, you risk employee complaints, lawsuits, and hefty fines. Additionally, federal laws and the courts´ interpretation of those laws has changed in recent months. For the uninformed, it's a recipe for disaster.

Sept 28

Warm and friendly is how you feel once you greet the welcoming smile of comedian Rodney Perry in person and after only minutes of being in his presence the smiles turn to hearty laughter as his gift is to entertain. Born in Chicago and raised in Monroe Louisiana the road to stardom has not always been paved with fun and laughs. But whatever his surroundings Perry has always used comedy to pave his way to success.
Rodney served his country for eight years as a member of the United States Navy. Serving two tours of duty took Rodney to New Orleans and to the Bay Area which prepared him for the entertainment industry and for life. He would perform his duties as Yeoman Second Class by day and perform his sidesplitting comedy shows by night. Perry came to a crossroad in 1998 when he had to choose between continuing his Navy career or making Stand-Up Comedy a career. He chose the latter. Rodney his wife and their children packed their things and headed to Hollywood. Actually Inglewood.

In the end, you're guaranteed to see everything that's funny about a fat man sharing a stage with a little bitty fella.

Sept 24 | 7:00 pm | Comedy Works
When a comic lives in the moment, no two shows are alike. With his relaxed style, Matt transitions seamlessly from scripted material to of-the-cuff conversation with the audience, leaving them laughing, applauding and gasping for air. Being the youngest of 8 kids, twice divorced and having no health care is what drives Matt to the stage night after night. It's like sitting down with an old friend and having the time of your life.
In addition to his stand up performances, Matt has also keeps busy creating one-man shows. In 2014 he wrote and produced his show "Thank You Johnny Carson", which received great reviews. In 2015 he debuted his latest show, "Acting My Age!"Matt has performed with many of the greats in the comedy world: Louis CK, Dave Attel, John Pinette, Ron White, and Jimmy Pardo among many, many more. Matt's latest CD "Acting My Age" can be heard on Sirius/XM radio and debuted on the top ten I-tunes comedy chart.
Thru Sept 29 | 10:15 pm | The Bovine Metropolis Theater
This just in...some news should be fake. Luckily, savvy experts at Denver's own Bovine Metropolis Theater are stepping in to corner the market with their new, fully improvised show, "Fake Network News."
Performed in the style of Meet the Press, AC 360 and other cable news programs, FNN features interviews, recurring segments and round-table discussions between their fake news anchors and a 'virtual who's who' of counterfeit experts, pundits and commentators.
"The fakest of the fake. (@BovineMetro) Sad. So-called journalists make up all the facts. PATHETIC. Only I can do that. LOSERS."
~President Trump (note: this is a fake tweet, or IS it?)
While the Pundits might be fake, the issues are utterly real and provided by the audience. Gun control? Sure. Immigration? Why not. The ethics of pet squirrel fashion shows? Um, ok. The anchors, reporters and commentators at FNN are chomping at the bit to give you all the fake news you deserve. The FNN production staff is going rogue, unscripted and improvised. It's all fabricated on the spot, and in front of your lying eyes.

Thru Sept 29 | 8:00 pm | The Bovine Metropolis Theater
Now in its 17th year playing in Denver, "On The Spot" is the fastest and funniest hour on earth! You will laugh so hard that time and space bend!
In the style of "Whose Line Is It Anyway," four actors and a moderator use audience suggestions to make for an action-packed night of craziness. "On The Spot" remains a local favorite, using the audience's unique suggestions to improvise scenes, games, and songs to make newcomers or regulars laugh themselves silly!
See as many as 20 improv games performed in one show."On The Spot" is perfect for company parties, birthdays, anniversaries, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and any event where people want to laugh.

Thru Sept 30 | 8:00 pm | The Bovine Metropolis Theater
Apparate Over for a Night of Magic!
Send out your owls! Hogwarts has been rebuilt and the future generations of magical children are all excited for a year at Hogwarts.
He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named has been destroyed, there surely is no evil left to threaten the Heirs of Hogwarts... or is there?
Experience a loving homage to the world of Harry Potter. With completely improvised story lines, this is a heartfelt send-up to the universe created by J.K. Rowling and is the only Harry Potter themed improv show in Denver. Imagine a love letter in the form of spoof, and that's what witches, wizards and muggles will be enjoying Friday Nights at 8:00 p.m. at the Bovine Metropolis Theater.
And just like a Bag of Bertie Bott's every flavored beans, "Anything can happen," says Gryffindor and Dramaturg, Kent Welborn. "In improv anything can happen, and then in the magical world of Harry Potter anything can happen double."
All the things you love about the Harry Potter universe will be displayed on stage: charms, Hogwarts houses, transfiguration, and magical creatures. Returning to Hogwarts has never been this funny. "Heirs of Hogwarts: An Improvised Adventure" is a loving fan-fiction parody of an entire year at Hogwarts.

Thru Nov 24 | 8:00 pm | Voodoo Comedy Playhouse
This is it! The season finale of WORKING TOGETHER, the completely unscripted sitcom is this Friday. Join us for the hilarious theatrical show that is heavily inspired by sitcoms of the 90s.

Makeshift Shakespeare pays homage to the Bard himself!  The absurdity of Shakespeare's comedies, the misfortune of his tragedies, and the yesteryears of his histories are all performed in a nightly original production by these brainy improvisers.
Denver has never seen anything quite like it!  "All-male, all-Shakespeare, all the time," says director Shannon Wood Rothenberg.  Theater-goers will find their intellects heartily entertained and their wit vigorously stimulated by the unlimited possibilities of improvisation coupled with the richness of William Shakespeare's legacy.

Thru Dec 29 | 9:00 pm | Voodoo Comedy Playhouse
Based on the suggestion of a title from the audience, the performers of Hit and Run: Musical Improv create an unscripted hour-long Broadway-style comedy musical from scratch.  HNR features live accompaniment, dancing, soaring ballads, and more emotional outbursts than Rent and The Phantom Of The Opera combined.  Sondheim and Lloyd Webber take years to write a musical, but HNR creates a brand new one every week.  You won't want to miss it!

Thru Dec 30 | 9:00 pm | Voodoo Comedy Playhouse

Ronnie Shellist has been honing his harmonica skills for the past 20 years. His musical career began in 1997 working with singer/songwriter Hugh Fadal from Austin,TX. Blues great Gary Primich was a huge influence on his music as well as Guy Forsyth and Walter T. Higgs who lived and played in Austin in the mid 90's. "If it weren't for those guys, I never would have pushed as hard as I did to learn how to get that sound out of my harp" Thanks to a great blues scene in Austin at the time, Ronnie had an up close and personal experiences in the scene that heavily influenced his ultimate musical direction. His style is a combination of mostly Chicago and West Coast blues influenced by funk and jazz greats such as Grant Green and Maceo Parker.

In the mid 1990s, The New York Times described Larry Goldings, Peter Bernstein, and Bill Stewart as "the best organ trio of the last decade." The trio, which has now been together for over 20 years, has been recognized for charting new ground, with its synergistic playing, yet thoughtful music. They have recorded nine albums and two DVDs together, all of which display their distinctive sound, whether exploring the depths of jazz standards, or playing their own original compositions. Of their newest offering, Ramshackle Serenade, (Pirouet), Downbeat said, "The whole album subtly subverts organ-trio cliches, offering not chicken-shack party stomps but instead some hip after-hours atmospherics...4 stars"
With his signature Hammond organ style and versatility on many keyboards, Boston native Larry Goldings(b. 1968) has traversed not only the wide spectrum of jazz where he is perhaps best known, but also the worlds of funk, pop, and electronic music. High in demand as a sideman, Goldings' sound can be heard on scores of albums by artists in virtually every musical genre.

Creating glorious sonic landscapes from dense sheets of guitar-generated noise,  Belong are a collaboration between guitarist Michael Jones and producer Turk Dietrich (the latter is also a member of Benelli with Joshua Eustis of Telefon Tel Aviv). Drawing influences from My Bloody Valentine, Brian Eno's ambient music, and composer William Basinski, Belong came together in 2002, when Jones and Dietrichstarted discussing likeminded musical ideas, and in 2004 they began working up material in Dietrich's home studio. Inspired by the symbiotic beauty and decay of their hometown of New Orleans, Belong slowly crafted their debut album, October Language, and released the finished product in early 2006 as their city was still coming to grips with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina (as their label, Carpark Records, said in a press handout, "October Language might be the only record you'll hear from New Orleans this year"). Following the release of October Language, Jones and Dietrich took Belong on the road in the United States and Europe; a second album from the duo is anticipated in 2007.
