Monster Mash (Fall Festival) is TONIGHT!  

Don't miss this fun event featuring a DJ dance in the cafeteria, moon bounces, face painting and carnival games on the front plaza and crafts and the cake walk in the music classrooms.  There will also be snacks for purchase, as well as spirit gear sales!  We now have adult Abingdon T-Shirts for sale.   Please consider making a baked good donation to the cake walk.  Donations should be dropped by 6:00 pm.

Tickets will be sold at the event and they are $6 per ticket or $20 for a family of 5.  Please note that this is NOT a drop-off event, all children should be accompanied by an adult.  The Mash will be from 7pm to 9 pm.  Halloween costumes are optional, but very fun!  Don't miss this exciting event!

Read-A-Thon Enters Second Week

Has your child been doing a lot of extra reading this week?  They must be because Abingdon students have read for over 67,000 minutes in the first four days of the Read-A-Thon!  That's over 1,116 hours of reading.   It's not too late to set up your child's personalized reading page to track their reading minutes during this two-week event. Just visit readathon.com and enter your email and your child's personalized secret code to get started.  If you don't have your code, just email Becki Kennedy, PTA Vice President of Fundraising  at [email protected].  

The personalized page is also how you solicit sponsorships from friends and family to help the PTA raise important funds to support all of the valuable and fun activities we sponsor, including the Cardinal Kids Mentoring Club and teacher enrichment programs. The Read-A-Thon replaces the PTA's usual catalog based fall fundraiser this year.  

We want to thank all of the families that have already set up their personalized pages and solicited sponsorships!  It's important to take a moment this weekend to send out some reminders to all your Facebook friends, twitter followers, email contacts, etc.  A few creative Abingdon families have been posting daily videos of their children reading or talking about their books and reading goals, and this has proven to be a great way to get more sponsors!  

At tonight's Monster Mash, we will be having some drawings for prizes to celebrate the first week of the Read-A-Thon.  Your child does not need to be present to win.  We will also be giving out prizes to the class with the most minutes at the end of the Read-A-Thon!  So let's keep on reading!  Can we make it to 200,000 minutes?
