A Note From Dave
It was a great week! (9/22/17)
Greetings, Governance Team Members,

It was great seeing you at this week's Board of Education meeting.  Once again, thank you for your vision and leadership as we make important decisions that move our district in a new and exciting direction.  It is hard to believe we are already over a month into the school year!  There is some great progress happening in our schools, and I remain excited about our work.  As we continue on our journey, please continue to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have.

Have a great weekend,
Dave
Friday Update
Here's what you need to know!

PES Evacuation Plan: For the past several years, the district has been trying to identify an emergency evacuation location for the elementary school.  Many of the locations considered are simply too far for small children to walk.  In the last couple of years, we have tried to secure SCORE Sports Center as our evacuation location; however, in years past they had not agreed to host us in an emergency.  I am happy to report that both Kathleen and Catherine have worked closely with SCORE and have secured this location as our elementary school emergency evacuation site.  We are all appreciative of their hard work to make this happen.

PS - The evacuation location for PMS is the park district building.

Boiler Replacement at PES: Just a heads up that we will be replacing an old boiler at PES next week.  This is a scheduled replacement and part of our five-year facilities plan.  We don't expect any issues with heating/cooling or water temperature or water pressure during this replacement.

Lead In Water Testing: Per Illinois Public Act 099-0922, the District conducted water testing for lead on August 11, 2017 at all three buildings. Under this law, any water source exceeding 5PPB would require notification to parents. The threshold for EPA for lead in water is 15PPB. Water samples were collected from 16 locations in the Middle School, 2 locations in the Administration building, and 21 locations in the Elementary School. The results were obtained on August 18, 2017 and all but 4 locations (2 at the Elementary School and 2 at the Middle School) had first drawing levels above 5 PPB whilst none of the second drawings exceeded 5 PPB. Upon recommendation from the consultant from MKA, the faucets in these four locations were replaced. A re-testing of the water was completed on September 6, 2017. We received the report of the second testing yesterday and the results showed all levels to be under 5 PPB. The test results will be posted on the District's website.

Questions From Board Members
Keeping you in the loop!

Q: What is the Personal Property Replacement Tax (PPRT)

A: Personal Property Replacement Taxes (PPRT) is a tax collected by the state that is shared with local governments to replace funds that were lost when taxing bodies' ability to impose personal property taxes on corporations, partnerships, and other business entities was abolished under the 1970 Constitution.  You can read more about the PPRT by accessing the Illinois Department of Revenue website.

Q: Can we add the Illinois State Standards to our district website?

A: Yes!  We have added a link to the Illinois State Standards to our website in the tab marked "Parents".  When someone places their cursor over the tab the state standards are included in the drop down list.  You can access our website by CLICKING HERE.
