A Message From The Superintendent's Office...

Dear Falcon Community,

The school year has begun and, judging by the number of smiling faces I saw on opening day, students and teachers are excited to be back in school. There are also exciting events unfolding in our school district, some of which are mentioned below.

The Monroe Township Board of Education approved the following resolution at its meeting on September 13, 2017. "A special school election of the legal voters of the School District shall be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 7:00 o'clock A.M until 9:00 o'clock P.M., in the School District at the places and for the purpose of approving the construction of a new middle school on land, which is anticipated to be donated to the Board of Education by the Township of Monroe." This is the first step toward addressing the influx of new students into the school district. We are excited about moving toward a new middle school, and we wish to thank everyone who has been involved in this process. We will be disseminating information to the community in a variety of ways between now and March 13th. Stay tuned.

The Monroe Township School District is embracing and promoting a healthy lifestyle to its students. Students are taught about the nutritional value of different types of food and the lifelong benefits of exercise. The Wellness Committee, chaired by Ms. Nancy Mitrocsak, our Director of Food Services, is comprised of parents, teachers, nurses and school principals. The Wellness Committee was tasked with addressing how to properly manage food for birthday and Holiday parties in our schools, as noted in Policy 8505. The Board of Education, after hearing from parents who agreed with and who opposed the recommended changes to the policy, asked the Wellness Committee to make modifications to the Wellness Policy that reflected a compromise between the opposing views of the public. After several revisions the policy was approved.  The result is that birthday celebrations will be held as non-food celebrations. Students' birthdays will still be celebrated and can include non-food goodie bags and other kid-friendly activities. The three Holiday parties will be held during the year and food will be allowed for the Holiday parties.

We are reviewing the renewal of our one to one technology integration at MTHS. Parents and community members are invited to a meeting at MTHS on October 3rd from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm, where vendors from several technology companies will present laptops and tablets for consideration as technology devices for MTHS students.

High school students who participated in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center will be presenting their business plans to a group of judges at MTHS on Tuesday, October 17th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The business plan presentation is the culminating activity for these students, who worked with high school teachers and a college professor from William and Mary University to focus on the issues faced by entrepreneurs of enterprise, while exploring the process of leadership, managing, financing, communicating and marketing. All are welcome to attend.

Sincerely yours,

Dr. Michael Kozak

Monroe Township Middle School PTO

Dear Parents and Staff,

Welcome back to school! We look forward to seeing you at our 1st PTO Meeting of the school year on Monday, September 25 7:30 (following the 7th Grade Back to School Night) in the MTMS Cafeteria.  Come learn about what we have planned for the upcoming school year.
Below is some information on some of our Fall Fundraisers!

The Rt. 9 Community Discount Card:   Sale will begin on September 15 - October 27. Each discount card costs $20, of which 50% goes directly back to the PTO. The number 1 benefit of this discount card is that it is  reusable, and not a 1 time coupon! You can use this card as often as you like, until December 2018. This card can be used at places such as Modell's, TGIF, Chili's, etc. from Old Bridge to Howell. There are many local places in Jamesburg and Monroe such as Baker's American Grill, Bagel Bazaar, Vine, Bella Italia, Tuscany, etc. Please check our website for more information on places the card can be used.  If you don't have a child in the Middle School, and would like to purchase a card to support the MTMS PTO, please email  domenica222@verizon.net

MTMS PTO Membership:  Please send in your PTO Membership ASAP, $10 per family, by September 30th.  One family will be randomly selected to win a gift card!  Membership can be sent back in the Discount Card/Membership Envelope or in a separate envelope labeled:  PTO Membership.

Fall Box Tops Contest: Our first Box Tops Collection is due into school by October 20.  Please start sending in your box tops to have your child entered in a contest to win a $10 gift card (1 gift card winner per grade).  For every 25 box tops submitted, your child will earn 1 raffle ticket that will be entered into the drawing. The more box tops that are brought in, the more chances to win a prize! Please send in your box tops in an envelope marked "Box Tops" with your child's name, team, and homeroom teacher.

MTMS PTO Fall Apparel Sale:  The MTMS PTO will be selling school Spirit Wear at the Middle School Back to School Nights. Please stop by the cafeteria to purchase items!  Order forms can also be found on our website at www.mtmspto.org

MTMS PTO Spirit Wear Day: Mark your calendar for the 1 st Spirit Wear Day on Wednesday, September 20. Lookout for more information coming soon!

MTMS PTO Fall Clothing Drive: Save the Date!   October 14 from 9am - 12pm at the MTMS parking Lot!  Please check our website for a listing of items that can be donated!

Our fundraising efforts bring so many great events/activities for our students and staff.  In addition to all that we fund each year (dances, bingos, etc) for our students and staff, one of our fundraising initiatives is to purchase and enhance the MTMS Gymnasium Speaker System. The speaker system is used for 8 th Grade Graduation, future pep rallies, Volleyball Madness, Athletic Breakfast and any other school events that take place in the gym.

Please continue to help support the MTMS PTO by collecting box tops, sign up for Ebox tops, shop through our Amazon link on our website, and sign up for Stop and Shop rewards. Stay connected by checking our PTO website frequently, "liking" our MTMS PTO Facebook page, and checking your emails. If you would like to join a PTO Committee, please email secretary@mtmspto.org.

Thank you for your ongoing support! We are looking forward to an exciting year with your child!
