November Housekeeping
We're entering our last full month of this semester, and it's bound to be a busy one as you finish up your coursework, prepare for finals, and look forward to Thanksgiving. On top of all that, you also get to start thinking about next semester!
On Monday, October 31st, the Spring 2017 course list was made available. There are two weeks between the arrival of the course list and the start of registration. Use this time to meet with your advisor to discuss the courses you are interested in taking next semester. Preparation is the key to beating the registration rush and getting into your classes early will ensure that you do not end up on the wait list. Registration opens up on November 14 for degree-seeking students and November 21 for non-degree-seeking students.
You should also be filling out scholarship applications in your free time. Having too much money makes life at UAF a lot easier than having too little, so be financially prepared for next semester! Your advisor is a great resource for financial aid, as is the

Native Oratory Competition
 Once again, Native Student Union is bringing the Native Oratory Competition to UAF! This competition is a chance to showcase your voice and win some great prizes, including a three-credit tuition wavier! It is also a great opportunity to listen to some very powerful students.
Here are the categories:
- Storytelling
- Declamation
- Poetry/Spoken Word
The competition will take place in the RSS Gathering Room from 6-9pm on November 5th. If you'd like to compete, be sure to
register before November 2nd.

Presidential Election
 The 2016 Presidential Election is coming up and the Wood Center will be an official voting venue! Be sure to stop by during the following times to cast your vote:

Student Highlights
Katie Roseberry
Katie Roseberry is finishing up her Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences with a minor in Biochemistry. She is from Utqiagvik, formerly known as Barrow, AK. Besides working towards her degree requirements, Katie has taken advantage of other opportunities. She has been involved in science and engineering organizations such as ANSEP and AISES. Through the BLaST program, she worked in Diane O'Brien's lab and worked on research that focused on nitrogen isotope ratios in native foods to determine if we could use them as a biomarker of traditional food intake for the Inupiat of the North Slope. This last summer she served as an intern Clinical and Research Services department of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium in Anchorage. As an intern, she did a variety of tasks from data entry, shadowing practitioners, and conducting background research for current or upcoming projects. As an intern she was required to attend weekly presentations on topics such as LGBTQ patients, how to treat stress, and breastfeeding.

If you need a little yoga in your life, stop by the Gathering Room on Fridays from 8-9:00am. Kathleen Meckel is instructing free sessions all semester long and welcomes everyone to check it out. Be sure to bring a yoga mat, water bottle, and yoga blocks for support if you have them. |

We have tons of help on campus, at CTC, and even online! Whether you need to talk to someone about Math, English, Science, or a Foreign Language, you're covered. Visit our

In the Gathering Room at RSS, we have tutors from the American Indian Science and Engineering Society to help you with Math, Science, and Engineering questions. You can view their

. We also have tutors from 2-4:00pm Monday through Thursday from the Writing Center, another from the Speaking Center on Tuesdays from 2-4:00pm, and a handful from the Frontier Baptist Church who can help with Chemistry, Math, Physics, English, and Writing (schedule here)!

Join a Club!
A big part of college life is getting involved in things that you're interested in. Not only do you get a chance to make a difference or submerge yourself into your hobbies, but you get to do it with other, like-minded people who have similar goals in mind. Those friendships that you create may be just the thing you need to forge ahead. Also, a ton of clubs provide free food, so there's that.

Aarigaa is a group for students to come together to learn about God, worship, and spend time with one another.
