YOC Tisch 

YOC students gathered in the MPR on Friday for the first tisch of the year. Along with some beautiful singing, students heard from Yaakov Rand who spoke about surviving a terrorist shooting in Israel. Students were captivated by his miraculous story and appreciated him sharing his experiences with them. The program finished with kugel in the lunchroom.

YOC Grade 9 Shabbaton

Grade 9 students spent a shabbat at Camp Moshava Ennismore. Rabbeim led engaging discussion sessions, a jeopardy game on shabbat afternoon and there was an energetic tisch on Friday night. Student leaders played an important part on the shabbaton, bringing energy and enthusiasm and leading beautiful davening and leining. Thank you to all student leaders, Rabbeim and members of our administration who attended. The grade 9s enjoyed every minute of the jam-packed, inspirational shabbaton.
 
Rosh Hashana Program  

The young shlichot ran a program at school in preparation for Rosh Hashana. The girls answered thought-provoking questions in a notebook and then had a seudat amen, where girls made brachot and everyone answered amen.

Literary Night

Grade 9 and 11 students will be discussing their summer reading choice in a mandatory book club evening on Monday, September 25 at 6pm. This evening is always a welcome opportunity to discuss literature in a different forum. Parents are welcome to join! RSVP to Mrs. Kagan at YOC and Mrs. Fixler at UO.

Matmidim Update

Next week, Matmidim will only meet on Wednesday, September 27 at 4:30pm (and not on Monday, due to literary night).
In Pictures
BAS staff participated in Mental Health Empowerment Day, sponsored by The Julia and Henry Koschitzky Centre for Jewish Education. 
A couple of groups of UO students went to two different hospitals this week as Bikur Cholim volunteers. They gave apples and honey to the nursing stations to say thank you to the medical staff for taking care of the Jewish patients . The girls also reminded the staff of the upcoming holidays and made sure they are aware of shofar blowing times in the hospital for their patients.
Rabbi Sonenberg delivered a shiur on halachot related to building sukkahs prior to our grade 12s beginning their sukkah building project.
Rav Yair and a representative from Shalva Children's Centre spoke to interested students at both schools about signing up and running the Jerusalem marathon for Shalva. Some of our students have already set up pages and are ready to begin fundraising.
Rabbi Pituchey Chotam's grade 10 class enjoyed a delicious brunch in his home, where they discussed the meaning of Rosh Hashana teffilot.

Cross Country practices after school on Tuesday, September 26 and Wednesday, September 27, 5:30-6:30pm.
Junior Boys Basketball practice is Tuesday, September 26 at 530-7:30pm.
Senior Boys Basketball practice is Wednesday, September 17 at 4:30-7:30pm.
