I hope that everyone is having a great school year so far! Fall is typically a busy time for us, and this year is no exception!
Last month, our Youth Development Specialist, Derrick Kirk, trained
4
00+ middle and high school students
to educate their peers about the dangers of tobacco. Derrick
shared that
"The peer educators have been engaging in fun activities while learning valuable presentation skills. Contra Costa TUPE is on another level!"
A
student had this to say about the one-day training:
"I like that it was fun but not like recess fun but like serious."
We are also gearing up for the
Great American Smokeout on November 17
. This nation-wide event encourages youth and adults to set a date to quit tobacco or, if they don't use, not to start. Our TUPE monthly theme for November is:
Break the Cycle. Visit our
TUPE page to access the monthly theme resources, including fast facts, PowerPoints, videos, and more!
As always, please contact me if you have any questions. I can be reached by
e-mail or by phone at (925) 942-5328.
Thanks,

November Break the Cycle Fast Facts:
Most smokers try many times before quitting for good. Every day, week, or month without smoking is a success, not a failure. The more people try, the more they learn about how to quit and the closer they get to their goal.
After 8 hours from the last cigarette, the nicotine in someone's bloodstream reduces by 93.25%.
