November is a month of thanks. As Scouts, we like to give back, be thankful and most of all help other people at all times. We thank our families, our Scout Leaders, our US Veterans and many others! So what are a few ways your unit can give thanks? The Veteran's Day Parade, work on Scouting for Food, volunteer at a local non-profit and many others! How will your unit give thanks?

SILVER BEAVER NOMINATIONS DUE
The Silver Beaver award is the highest award that a local council can give to a volunteer Scout Leader for service to youth.  The Boy Scouts of America recognizes the need to acknowledge our outstanding volunteers who truly go above and beyond to guarantee the availability of a quality Scouting program. Please consider nominating a dedicated Scouter that has influenced the program of Scouting in your area for this award. Nominations are due November 18, 2016.

WINTER CAMP
Have you ever seen Bert Adams in the winter? Now you can! Winter Camp is December 27-31, 2016 and registration is now open to Boy Scouts and Venturers. This camping opportunity offers  unique programs that are not available at either of our summer camps. Scouts can attend as a Troop, Crew, Patrol or as an individual provisional Scout. Don't delay, class registration begins soon!

UNIVERSITY OF SCOUTING
University of Scouting is a day of training tailored to YOUR position in Scouting. From Den Leaders to Cubmasters, Committee Members to Crew Advisors, there's something for everyone. Over 50 classes will be offered including Position Specific Training, Life to Eagle, Scoutbook 101, Introduction to GPS and many more. Come experience these courses on January 21, 2017  as they are led by experienced volunteers from the metro-Atlanta area. Registration opens FRIDAY, November 4, 2016! 

NATIONAL JAMBOREE
Youth positions are still available! Don't miss out on the best Scouting has to offer. We want YOU to live the Scouting adventure. Boy Scouts and Venturers h ead up to Summit Bechtel Reserve, West Virginia and experience hundreds of adventures over ten days, for a once in a lifetime experience. Meet other Scouts from all over the United States and beyond. Experience the Buckskin Games, Native American presentations, competitions and make progress on your advancement during classes around The Summit. This adventure kicks off  July 19-28, 2017 , but reserve your spot now- space is limited!

CAMP CARETAKER POSITION AVAILABLE
The Atlanta Area Council is looking to fill our open Caretaker position at the Camp Allatoona Aquatics Base in Woodstock, GA. This position is responsible for the safety and security of the property, minor maintenance, as well as providing access to the property and support materials to Aquatics Base Programs and to weekend campers.
