Fun had by all at Homecoming 2016

Homecoming activities were plentiful last week, including all athletic teams securing wins, the announcement of the Homecoming King and Queen, and the celebration of Reinhardt's 10 Under 10 Alumni.

The week kicked off with students, faculty and staff working to prepare more than 12,000 meals to send to Zambia as a part of Stop Hunger Now.

"Homecoming 2016 was a huge success, with over 20 associated events for students, alumni and community members," said Dr. Walter May, assistant dean of students and director of student activities. "One of the best aspects of the weekend was the winning of six different athletics games (football, women's soccer, men's soccer, women's basketball, men's basketball and volleyball). There was a lot of excitement shown by the students for both athletics and the university as a whole." ...  Read More

Reinhardt re-dedicates Burgess Administration Building

More than 70 years ago, World War II had been in full throttle for nearly three years, Dwight D. Eisenhower was president and Reinhardt was in trouble. Finances were not good and the United Methodist Conference was ready to shut down the institution. But that year, Reinhardt's saving grace would be installed as the institution's 15 th  president, Dr. James Rowland Burgess, Jr.

"When you become president, you learn to appreciate the ones who have gone before you," said President Kina Mallard. "I have spent the last 15 months hearing a lot about Dr. Burgess. Hardly a week goes by that I don't meet someone who tells me a Dr. Burgess story." 

Billy Hasty, chairman of the Board of Trustees said Dr. and Mrs. Burgess were quiet leaders of integrity, who were dedicated to seeing Reinhardt's success. ...  Read More

10 Under 10 highlights some of Reinhardt's best and brightest

The new class of 10 Under 10 Alumni was announced over the weekend at the Homecoming Alumni Awards and Recognition Dinner held on campus in the Bannister Glasshouse.

During the dinner, President Kina Mallard gave an update on the university including Reinhardt's increased ranking to 29th place in the U.S. News and World Report's Best Regional Colleges in the Southeast and the Colleges of Distinction honors.

Canton Mayor Gene Hobgood and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Billy Hasty, represented the Golden Anniversary Class of 1967 with remarks on how Reinhardt provided a firm foundation on which they have built their lives.

"It's hard to believe it's been 50 years. When Dale Morrissey asked me to deliver a few remarks tonight, I was hesitant until she told me that transcripts are destroyed after 30 years," Hobgood jokingly said.  ... Read More
Moonlight Madness highlights RU's basketball teams

When the moon rises, Reinhardt's men's and women's basketball teams come out to play.

Reinhardt University held its first Moonlight Madness event Oct. 24 as part of Homecoming Week that showcased the shooting and dunking skills of both of the university's basketball teams.

The Brown Athletic Gym was filled with students, faculty and staff coming out to show support for both the men's and women's basketball teams. Their seasons got started on Oct. 29, the same day as the Reinhardt Eagles homecoming football game vs. Georgetown College. ... Read More

Trunk or Treat was a smashing success

More than 300 children and their families joined Waleska United Methodist Church (lead sponsor of the event), Reinhardt University and the City of Waleska the annual Trunk or Treat event Oct. 26. Students, faculty and staff participated by dressing up, decorating trunks and passing out candy to the excited children dressed in their favorite costumes. Little Snow White joins RU Cheerleaders, Chewbacca and a Storm Trooper for a quick photo. See more photos from Trunk or Treat and Homecoming on the RU Facebook Page.

Martin takes home
Mid-South Weekly Award

Reinhardt's Tyler Martin was named Mid-South Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week Monday after leading the No. 3 Eagles to a 28-9 win over No. 15 Georgetown in the NAIA Game of the Week. The conference office announced the award Monday afternoon.

Martin, a senior from Boaz, Ala., had one of the best days of his career in the win over Georgetown. Martin had seven tackles, including three for a loss and two sacks. The linebacker also had an interception in the victory. Martin and the rest of the Reinhardt defense held the Tigers to their season-low in points in the win..
