More Progress On Maple Street

We are thrilled to be working with a team from Roca of Springfield. They are painting the exterior of the former Female Seminary at 77 Maple Street, a building slated for redevelopment as a part of the Lower Maple Business Park.

Roca is a Massachusetts based organization dedicated to supporting high risk young men from the community by providing them with mentoring and transitional employment training assistance. Working with their site supervisors, these young people have spent several weeks prepping the exterior, priming and painting based on a historically appropriate color scheme.

In the months ahead we'll be planning for the interior rehabilitation. This space is available for lease to one or more tenants. Interested parties should contact DevelopSpringfield's President and CEO, Jay Minkarah by email at jminkarah@developspringfield.com for further information.

It's the perfect time to reach out so that space could be designed to suit your specific needs.

Energy Efficient Lighting Installation

With the assistance of Advanced Energy Group, DevelopSpringfield recently contracted with Eversource to significantly improve lighting efficiency at the STCC parking lot at 470 Union Street. The project consisted of replacing older HID Metal Halide bulbs with high performance LED bulbs through the Eversource Direct Install program.

Through the Conservation Fund Incentive program (part of Mass Save), Eversource contributed over half of the cost of the project and allowed DevelopSpringfield to finance its portion of the cost at zero interest over two years. The financed portion is paid through regular electricity bills and is completely offset by the electricity savings from the retrofit, which are projected to be nearly $800 per year.

By replacing older equipment with newer, more energy efficient equipment, this project saves money and more importantly, helps the environment by reducing the usage of electricity. Long term plans for the lot are focused on development of a full-line grocery store to serve the community.
DevelopSpringfield Partners with Roca and EcoBuilding Bargains on Cleanup of Bridge Street Property

As work progresses at the Springfield Innovation Center, we enlisted the support of Roca and EcoBuilding Bargains to help clear out some of the vacant spaces in 284-286 Bridge Street in preparation for rehabilitation of this recently acquired building in the Trinity Block.

These partnerships allow us to reduce "waste" and recycle as much of the reusable interior furnishings and building materials as possible while providing on the job training opportunities for Roca youth.

We are grateful to the teams from Roca and EcoBuilding Bargains!
