Be S.A.F.E. Uptown

Be S.A.F.E. is a summer program for parks in the Long Beach community. This summer Be S.A.F.E. is back at Houghton Park bringing activities for those in the area. Below are some of the advantages of having a program like this in our community:
Be S.A.F.E. helps to reduce crime in neighborhoods by extending supervision hours at designated parks during the evening in the summer and employing neighborhood youth, gives families positive and safe activities to enjoy together, strengthens social connections throughout neighborhoods; and offers recreation programs such as arts and crafts, outdoor games, sports, science activities and dance programs; classes in fitness, cooking, gardening and flower arranging; and computer labs that appeal to youth and families.
This is the final week of Be S.A.F.E. Be sure to visit local parks for fun activities!
Get Your Fit on at Houghton Park!

We the People  is offering a free youth empowerment program  August 22 – 24, 2017 for students aged 12-15 . This program is for students interested in politics and making a difference in the world. We the People is a program designed to help students find and amplify their voice as leaders, as thinkers, and as citizens who have a stake in the future of their city and country. Over the three-day program, students will explore different mediums for expressing their views about problems and issues in their world. Students will make protest art, create PSAs, and deliver speeches, as well as find effective ways to get their messages out into the community and recruit others to their causes.

This summer program is  free , and will run from 1:00 – 4:00pm at the Michelle Obama public library in Long Beach on Atlantic Ave. The workshop leaders are certified, experienced social studies and science teachers and students from Long Beach and greater Los Angeles.
