Survey Spotlight: Thermo Fisher

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is a global company with over 50,000 employees in 50 countries. With offices all over the world, keeping up with infrastructure maintenance and additions is a constant. Thermo Fisher's Madison, WI office has incorporated Ruekert & Mielke, Inc.'s (R/M) survey capabilities into their infrastructure projects in order to keep them on time and on budget.

R/M has worked with Thermo Fisher's Madison office to perform a multitude of surveying tasks to ensure accurate data for the Office's infrastructure needs, including: land survey to identify boundaries on the south campus, site utility locations and topography services for design purposes, construction staking related to site improvements, easement reviews for permanent utility easement, easement and access agreement review for construction of WisDOT Verona Road Project, and WisDOT land acquisition review and support services. With R/M's help, Thermo Fisher's growing infrastructure will continue to be supported by accurate data and a budget-conscious approach.

The Importance of Watershed Initiatives
As awareness of water quality issues has increased and permitting requirements in municipalities have become stricter, the number of local and regional initiatives to protect and restore watersheds has grown significantly.

One example from Southeastern Wisconsin is the Root-Pike Watershed Initiative Network (Root-Pike WIN) which was formed in 2001 with a mission to "restore, protect, and sustain the Root-Pike basin watersheds through the funding and facilitation of a regional network of locally initiated projects." Over the past decade, Root-Pike WIN has assisted SEWRPC with the planning and implementation of multiple watershed restoration plans, awarded over 100 small grants to local conservation projects, and has formed the Keep Our Waters Clean program which helps municipalities meet their storm water permit requirements. Members of the initiative include a variety of counties, cities, towns, and villages across the Root-Pike Watershed. Becoming a member involves sending a letter of intent to the DNR, signing an intergovernmental agreement and contract, and paying a membership fee. R/M is prepared to help your municipality with these steps to become a member or can help you find and apply to be part of a similar watershed initiative in your area.
