What is your position at Borton Overseas?
Air Specialist

What is your background?
I have been in the Travel Industry for 23 years. My background includes being an International Travel Consultant, Air Pricing-Marketing Analyst, and a Travel Instructor.

What makes you an Air Specialist?
I review, analyze, and ensure accuracy of airline pricing and ticketing. I research, coordinate and produce the best air options for our independent and group clients to ensure that they have a wonderful air travel experience.

What is your favorite thing to do on vacation?
My ideal vacation would be to relax, soak up the sunshine, and eat local cuisine.

What is your favorite vacation destination? And Why?
Saint Barthelemy. I love the beautiful beaches and unique Caribbean charm.

What are you most looking forward to this winter?
The Holidays, fireplaces, snowy nights, and Starbucks Peppermint Mochas!

What travel tips do you have for our readers?
1. Be flexible with travel plans. The best air deals may be available only on certain days of the week.
2. Plan as far ahead as you can.  Many airlines set aside only a limited number of seats on many desirable flights at lower rates.
3. Be organized before arriving at the airport.  This will make for an efficient transition through security.
4. Travel with a positive and open mind.
Anything else?
I have always believed and practiced that one kind word can change someone's entire day!
Our Gift Certificates can be customized to any occasion and are available in any denomination.

Whether you desire a beach-side adventure to Thailand or something more adventurous, such as an African safari, we can design the right itinerary for any couple.
The Adventure Issue
Adventure is a term that means different things to different people. It can be as simple as trying a new food or walking through a new part of a familiar city. It could also be as intense as paragliding or diving with sharks. For most, it is probably somewhere in between. Below, we have featured activities and destinations to whet your appetite for adventure, and we look forward to customizing an adventure just for YOU!
The effort one takes to trek through thick, tropical forest is well-rewarded when you finally come face-to-face with a mountain gorilla! It is an encounter you will likely never forget!

The adventure begins at the park headquarters when you are assigned the gorilla family you will be tracking. Experienced guides will teach you proper ape etiquette, such as "You can't touch the apes, but they may touch you." Soon you are off, trekking through the thick forest underbrush, mud and steep grades. The journey can take anywhere from 1-8 hours, depending on where "your" gorillas are located. After a while your objective suddenly materializes, dark against the green underbrush. First you just see just one, a great, stoic, silverback male, but slowly the entire extended family is revealed to you. You savor every minute of the hour of your privileged visit before  you begin your trek back down the mountain, returning to your lodge for lively conversation about your unforgettable encounter.

The mountain gorillas' concentrated habitat covers only 170 square miles in the jungle-covered mountains of Uganda, Rwanda and the DRC.
We offer primate trekking options in both Uganda and Rwanda for all ability levels. With less than 900 mountain gorillas remaining, tourism dollars from    trekkers are the primary source of  funding to insure they exist for future generations. To preserve this legacy, our friends at Wilderness Safaris have worked tirelessly with local communities in Rwanda to build a new eco-lodge called Bisate, opening June 2017. A maximum of 12 guests will keep this experience intimate and focused on gorillas. If you would like to be one of the first guests, give us a call.

Hiking, biking, kayaking, rafting, skiing and walking; in South America you can do it all. Sometimes all of it in just a day or two! Imagine soaking in the thermal hot springs of the Atacama Desert by day, and then gazing at a star field second-to-none by night. Or, snorkeling with penguins, seals and iguanas before walking the beaches amongst the tortoises and one-of-kind birds in Galapagos . Perhaps sipping world-class wines (and even making some!) in the gorgeous wine regions of Argentina and Chile is your adventure. How about feeling the spray from Iguazu Falls on the border of Argentina and Brazil? Skiing in the Andes near Santiago? Or trekking the wilds of Patagonia? We can arrange it all!

Or, you may prefer to really focus in and truly experience a place not only by its geography but also its culture. We are doing just that with our upcoming Signature Journey:

July 22 - 29, 2017

Join us on an adventure to the "Middle of the World". We will walk the cobblestone streets of Quito's Old Town, stand up paddle board or kayak on the waves of San Pablo Lake, hike the trails of Cotopaxi National Park and bike from the cloud forest down to the Pacific coast. Throw in a trip to the Otavala market, a tour of a cocoa farm and a ride on the emblematic "Devil´s Nose" train. This trip has the perfect mix of culture and adventure for the active traveler!

Sweden is a country filled with amazing adventures! Winter brings opportunities to ice skate or snowshoe in the capital of Stockholm, take a snowmobile ride through the countryside, or go reindeer sledding while learning about Sami culture in the North. A visit during the winter wouldn't be complete without a few nights at the famous ICEHOTEL in  Swedish Lapland. Stay in a room made of snow and ice one night, and warm accommodations the next. You can even transfer to the airport by dogsled!

Summer offers a new set of adventures. When the days are long and the temperature averages a mild 70° F, it is the perfect time to sightsee by bicycle!   Walking and hiking tours are classic ways to experience local life and explore the countryside. And i f water is your preferred mode of transportation, you can join a kayak tour along the Swedish west coast or through the archipelago in the east. Looking for something a little more exhilarating? Zip-lining in Småland or RIB speed boating are sure to get your adrenaline pumping.

But Wait, There's More!
Adventures are not just limited to Sweden. Many adventurers gravitate to Iceland for its geo-thermal hot springs, glacier hiking, Northern Lights hunts, horseback riding, river rafting, snorkeling, snowmobiling, ATV quad biking, plus lava and ice caves -- just to name a few -- but adventures are widespread throughout all of Scandinavia. Try a multi-day bik e tour in Denmark or Finland. Perhaps a king crab fishing safari in Norway above the Arctic Circle is more your style? Or even rappelling off a cliff in the Faroe Islands? You can do all this and more; we will tailor the package just for you!

There is plenty to excite the experienced trekker and the avid hiker in Asia. Well-known to many hikers is Nepal and its Himalayan Mountains, but there are opportunities to actively explore in every country!

Imagine following trails through remote villages from Kalaw to Inle Lake in Myanmar, or hiking along rivers and rice fields and stopping for a break to check out the colorful ethnic minority market in mountainous Sapa, Northern Vietnam. In Southern Laos a short hike is necessary to visit many of the famous and amazingly beautiful waterfalls, and while there, why not add a bit of whitewater rafting to the excitement? Or if you are looking for something a little more off the beaten path, hiking in Bhutan, a place that has remained untouched by the rest of the world, has a special magic one can only find in this spiritual kingdom.

There is much to discover -- the diverse culture, incredible cuisine,  the warm and welcoming people --    that makes Asia such a special place to explore.

On November 5th, 2016, we were proud to sponsor MyTalk 107.1's Project Down and Dirty Rock Band in our local community. This fundraising event consisted of the MyTalk 107.1 Radio Show Hosts facing off to raise money for local charities in the guise of a rock band concert. The hosts spent several days living together, learning songs and rehearsing. They then showcased their new skills for their fans at a concert, where the proceeds went to four charities:

Vega Productions
Ireland's Hope
Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Fund
Alive and Kickin'

Borton Overseas proudly supports all of these charities and this outstanding fundraiser benefiting our local community. We hope that you will be inspired to learn more about the projects and join us in supporting their efforts.
